I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Leonard Weiss regarding a medical-legal matter requiring an impartial evaluation. It’s easy sharing my observations about a professional needing no accolades due to his expertise and dedication to his chosen endeavor. Dr. Weiss has skills and knowledge unmatched by his peers with equal training. In my opinion, his incisive and intuitive evaluation of myself and my history is legendary. As a physician myself, having decades of experience communicating with over 100 patients per day and also observing other doctors interact with their patients, I have never witnessed a doctor who instinctively knows the next question to ask or the next appropriate comment to interject as does Dr. Weiss. He can ferret out forgotten truths and beneficial knowledge better than anyone I have ever witnessed. He has the gift, talent, and empathy that is unique in discerning a client’s needs, deficiencies, and desires.

There are so many issues I experienced with this place, so I will keep it as concise as possible.1. I was not informed that prescription refill appointments were different than standard appointments, so instead of paying $90, it was around $150 every time I needed a simple prescription refill on top of the actual medication costs.2. After the *first* appointment with the doctor, I was put on 1200 mg of lithium, 150 mg of Seroquel, and 100 mg of trazodone. Again, this was the *first* appointment where the preliminary diagnosis was made, and I was already on a stack that was seemingly designed to numb me out of existence.3. The doctor could not have seemed more disinterested in me or my condition. Melancholic sighs in between writing notes, seemingly doing his best to end appointments early, and never responding with tact to my questions were commonplace during every meeting.I was 19 and in need of help. Instead, I was swindled, medicated into oblivion with no regard for my input, and generally made to feel like a problem instead of a patient. I’m better now, no thanks to this establishment. If you’re looking for care, I recommend another provider.

Dr. Weiss is a patient listener and readily asks intuitive questions to get to the heart of the problem. In a very short period of time he had recommendations for my wife to consider eliminating certain medications that might be causing her some health issues. Her doctors took the advise of Dr. Weiss giving my wife wonderful relief. We are both pleased with the results and impressed with Dr. Weiss.

I met with Dr. Weiss of Psychiatry Austin and I have to say I am very impressed with him. It took me a little bit to get to know him but after I did, I felt like he was very bright, in depth, and genuine. I hadnt realized just how much experience he had and how relevant it was until I talked with him and read more about his background on his website. He gave me a number of resources that have been extremely helpful in living my life to the best of my ability.

The relationship you have with your psychiatrist can make or break you in my humble opinion. When our mental health impacts every aspect of our lives, having a positive and trusting relationship can be the difference between surviving and thriving. As both a mental health advocate and a patient, I know that a caring and competent psychiatrist can make a huge difference. Why Dr. Leonard Weiss is such an exceptional practitioner in the mental health profession? He possesses the qualities that I think we should all look for in our clinical relationships. The first impression blew me away. He sits directly across from me and he looks at me. He doesn’t sit behind a desk or hide behind a desktop computer. This relaxed posture, complete attention, and most importantly, consistent eye contact totally disarmed me and I immediately felt more trusting of him making me feel safe to be vulnerable.Second impression, Dr. Weiss respects my agency and gives me choices. He strongly believes in collaboration and self-education. In other words, he believes in my agency. I can’t emphasize enough how critical this is for mental health. Far too often you are not trusted to make competent decisions and are talked at rather than talked with. I feel respected and believed and in return, I feel that I can open up and be honest about what I’m struggling with. This approach is both humanizing and, yes, anti-oppressive, as it upholds the belief that mentally challenging people are truly the experts on their own lived experience. And we are. Trust is foundational in any clinical relationship.Last impression that sealed the deal for me that Dr. Weiss was the chosen ONE for me, as another reviewer commented, Dr. Weiss “is a great diagnostician with broad experience and education in several specialties”. Diagnoses are markers that can determine the entire course of treatment. Which therapies and medications are recommended can rely on these labels, and how we come to understand our struggles can be framed around these labels as well. This is why it is so incredibly important that we have psychiatrists that don’t take these diagnoses for granted. Dr. Weiss treats you holistically and in this context he has real conversation with you and we continue to revisit and explore therapies and medications based on psych eval labels and we come to understanding of my struggles framed around these labels. In closing of this review of Dr. Leonard Weiss, the sense of agency, trust, and validation I feel is absolutely priceless and with each new success, I’m grateful for the amazing results under his care for more than a year now. He is an exceptional mental health provider who makes it a point to respect and uplift you, gives you the language to advocate for yourself, not perpetuating the harm and abuse that psychiatry can so often enact on mentally challenging people.

I Love Dr Wiess! Not sure I could have made it through some of the most difficult changes I have ever faced without his support and guidance. He was very kind and thorough during my initial evaluation. Dr Wiess has been very professional, patient and occasionally shows an great sense of humor during the course of my treatment. I have felt very respected and empowered as a patient in his care.

Thank you Dr. Weiss! As a parent of an Autistic son there have been many challenges, and many blessings! For years we did our best to stay away from medications. We did and still do all we can to promote a healthy lifestyle for our son. But the day came when all our efforts were not helping him. We are so grateful to have been introduced to Dr. Weiss who worked with us to find the right combination of meds, that allowed are son as a young adult be part of life, in his home and community! THANK YOU!!!

For the very steep fees, I expected much more from Psychiatry Austin than being ignored for days on end, urgent requests for medication refills going unanswered without any offer of an explanation, and other breaches of ethics. I wound up in the emergency room after around a week passed since I first requested a refill of a medication from which I absolutely cannot go cold turkey or taper rapidly. A practice had never made me feel unsafe until my experience with Psychiatry Austin.
