Screening was two appointments, very inconvenient and waste of time. They also don’t pay you anything for screening so be warned. After being admitted into a study, my ECG results were out-of-range so I was exited the second day. Understandable, but got only $100 for the brief stay. The staff, Im sorry to report, are new and have zero consideration for volunteers. Especially the coordinators, they seemed stressed and over-worked and had no interest in making human connection with us. When I was getting my blood drawn, I had a brand new technician do it with another staff shadowing her work. She took way to long. I would have appreciated it if they warned us before hand, something on the lines of hey, this may take longer because were training a few new people. Hope you dont mind? But nay, they stick you and have no consideration for volunteers. As for the doctors, good luck ever meeting them. They appear at your physical, less than 2-mins., and then disappear. When i was exited for out-of-range ECG, i would have appreciated (and preferred) a doctor tell me why instead of just the grumpy and unfriendly coordinator…Check-in procedures made me feel like a prisoner. You have eyes on you from the moment you go pee, to when youre stripped search. Yes, they will ask you to get into your undies while they check your clothes for contraband. Speaking of clothes, you will be expected to wear a color t-shirt so they can identify you throughout the study.COVID social distancing / practices were in place, however, I found it extremely uncomfortable to wear a face mask when sleeping. Yes, they required even in your bed that you wear a face mask. Come on PPD, if you tested us from the start and the results were negative, there is no real reason to have us wear masks while we sleep! All in all, there were way too many rules and no human connection by the staff to volunteers. I didnt meet one happy staff member at all. Although there was one cute guy and remised we didn’t connect.***9/9/21 Update: Called and spoke with my Study Coordinator, April, and was told they lost my W-9 form so my check was delayed. They said they would send a new W-9 to be filled-out and THEN they can issue my check. Based on this horrible experience, I would strongly discourage any participants to volunteer at this company. Perhaps more Austin, TX than the other one..******9/28/21 Update: Called and spoke with a Manager, Trish, and she was able to assist and look into the matter for me. She definitely was more helpful than April D. Will keep this updated. ******10/10/21 Update: Finally got resolution from them regarding the outstanding check they owe me. Sally from PPD called to update me and we all good now.***

This company is highly inefficient and unprofessional. They have absolutely no regard for volunteers time. Over the past couple of months I have screened for two studies, both times I had to call multiple times to follow up and find out how my screening went. The first time, I finally received a call back to tell me they had pulled the study. The second time, I never received any call back to notify me whether or not the study was going forward or if my labs were ok. These people dont care about the time and money people spend to make it to these screenings and dont even have the decency for a quick call to let people know what is going on. If you really need the money, dont depend on this incompetent company. There are many other reputable companies in Texas who value volunteers and their time.

PPD might be as inefficient and bureaucratic as a government office in a former Soviet Union country. They made numerous errors (e.g. cancelled my study twice despite us passing all the tests) that wasted my time and probably cost them money too. Also, they make questionable business decisions. For example, they send out a cheque 3 weeks after your study is complete. Presumably, volunteers participated because they needed money now. I bet these subjects would easily accept 5-10% less, if only they could give the cheque immediately upon completion. 5% compounded over 3 weeks is an annualized interest rate of 232%! Lose-lose!In 5-10 years, PPD is doomed to close its doors, as better research companies emerge...unless it is acquired by a private equity company that replaces the entire management with competent people.

They get full mileage out of the fact it’s voluntary. Called everybody the night before check in knowing people would be released early because they didn’t have test results yet from screening. No extra compensation for the inconvenience for those released because of PPDs mishandling of tests. Extremely punitive, orientation consists largely of them telling you all the ways they can dock your pay, that they openly feel is more than we deserve, yet there is no recourse for the subjects when they screw up. Screening was bs also, first time phlebotomist given tubes that were near expiration. Took them 3 needles, 3 phlebotomists, and 10 tubes to get the sample.

A major waste of time and money plus its bad for the environment.MAKE AN ONLINE PORTAL to schedule screenings and provide informed consent. Dont do it. lol. I did a study here last September and after I got out of the study I developed an autoimmune disease called Relapsing Polychondritis. Its a condition in which the immune system starts going after cartilage. It causes inflammation in any area where cartilage is present. Outer ears, inner ears, nose, eyes, trachea, heart, joints. The study was for a medication that was being developed to treat Psoriasis. I think the medication caused an imbalance in my immune system that led me to develop this condition. The symptoms actually started to first develop when I was still in the study...mere days after they stopped giving us the medication. It all started with a tickling sensation in my right ear canal. After they released us from the clinic the symptoms really took off. Both ears got red, nose started throbbing, eyes became irritated, joint pain everywhere. It was really frightening. I had being doing studies here since 2014. That was my 10th study. Definitely my last. I just hope my health is salvageable. I started seeing rheumatologists but they put me on immune suppressing meds that gave me bad side effects. Now Im just trying to treat it holistically. Not much success so far but Im still trying. I also get hives that I think are autoimmune in nature. Every night around 9PM, almost like clockwork I will get really itchy welts that form on my palms and fingers. Both hands also throb pretty bad. This happens for about an hour before receding. Its pretty mysterious and I cant find anything online that truly explains why this is happening. I also have food sensitivities that I never had before. Whatever they gave us in that study ruined my immune system and now my immune system is ruining my body. I wish I never found out about this place. Id warn anyone reading this not to do it. Its very risky. I like to think that the symptoms arent as bad anymore but I still get pretty bad flare-ups. Everything Ive read about this disease tells me that its chronic and *usually* progressive. I hope it isnt. That is scary. I cant believe I ever did medical studies. I took my health for granted for far too long. I took something that was perfectly fine the way it was and completely ruined it through poor decisions. I just dont understand how I got to a point where I thought doing medical studies was the only way I could make money. Talk about low self-esteem.Just another update: I believe I developed Temporal Arteritis, also known as GCA. Its a vasculitis that affects the temporal arteries. Ive been having throbbing and swollen temporal veins, burning sensations with severe headache and jaw pain for over a week now. This condition can cause permanent blindness if left untreated because the inflammation in the blood vessels can constrict blood flow to the optic nerve (and even the tongue which can lead to necrosis). This started suddenly back on June 27th but was preceded by a major depressive episode with joint and muscle pain throughout my body. I have gone to various ERs 4 times over the holiday weekend. I was able to receive short term steroids from one ER. (And it helped, which leads me to believe its GCA) I have to figure out what to do next. Im going to follow up with a PCP until I re-establish talks with a rheumatologist. Hopefully I can get prescribed more Prednisone in the meantime. Guys, this is what Ive been dealing with ever since I did that medical study. Its been a neverending health crisis. My health was perfect before I agreed to participate in that one. Its almost been a year. I thought these symptoms would have subsided, evidently not. It comes in waves. I know this might not be the time and place to discuss this but Im just trying to warn other unsuspecting volunteers that something really dire can happen after doing a medical study. You dont know what it can do to your body in the long-term. I dont know what they gave us in that study all I know is that it decimated my entire body.

The older doctor (white, male, thick accent) barred me from being in a study because I was menstruating. It was NOT a postmenopausal study, and it was COMPLETELY up to the doctors discretion to not let me in. I passed all labs flawlessly and I know for certain my drug test passed. Being on a period has never been an issue for any other woman I have met who does studies, including myself, unless of course it was postmenopausal. I genuinely believe (especially talking to other people about my experience regarding PPD) that this doctor is simply just a misogynist and does this frequently. He also wanted evidence that I did in fact have an IUD (birth control) when I have NEVER been asked this in a study, and it is not required by the FDA or by sponsors (or atleast any I have encountered - or anyone else Ive spoken to). In addition, they take your blood to see if you are pregnant so he should know that I am not. A respected form of birth control for this study is abstinence, but how is one going to provide proof of that? I believe that this doctor intentionally discriminates against women and wants to make it hard for us to get into studies. I have talked to other women who have had equally shocking experiences that were met with no logical explanation or evidence except that the old male doctor didnt approve of them being in the study. I will never recommend this place to anybody.

This place is a waste of time. In order to participate in a study I was sent to a doctor to get a test done. Ppd called me and told me based on my results I could participate in the study. I drove all the way to Austin twice to be in the study (once to take the covid test and the second for check in) after I checked in the next day I was supposed to get my first dose. Because the results from the doctor hadnt come in yet I got sent home. But Ppd had called me and told me based on those results I was able to be in the study. So basically they called me and told me I could be in the study based on test results they didnt even have. I got sent home on a Saturday and was called on Monday and was told that based on my test results I could be in the study. But I had to wait 20 days to be in the next study. Then the day came for check in but because of the bad weather they canceled it. No one even called me to tell me it was canceled. I had to call them to find out what was going on. Then they finally call me 4 days later to tell me based on the same test results I could NOT be in the study. I got ONE test done from one doctor they sent me to and based off of ONE test I got THREE phone calls. 2 calls saying my results were good and I could be in the study and one call saying they were bad and I was being pulled out of the study all from that one test I did. So I just wasted like a month with this company

I can only speak for my experience but i did this for 7 years as a full time volunteer. Out of all those studies i can count with one hand the amount of times i didn’t feel good after taking a drug. The worse one was when i developed a rash on my entire body. They just moved me to isolation and the doc stopped dosing me. One day i did a study that required a TB test and i proceeded b/c i know i don’t have TB. The medic that read my arm said i had TB and completely disqualified me from ever doing a study there. I went home to my own doctors and had multiple TB tests which all came back negative. I sent all the paperwork to ppd and they reinstated me. A bit after they disqualify me again because of some bs in my urine. This is when i decided to retire from doing studies. Some people say they do that on purpose because they want new people. But i did it for 7 years back to back so who knows. My favorite doctor is Dr.Hunt. Always so nice but it gets awkward. “Follow my finger with your eyes, smile, shrug your shoulders...”My favorite coordinator is between lavonnie and Jessica. Both are amazing. Ashley P was great too but just like everyone quits. Shout out to my man Ricky. Coolest dude ever.PPD is the best place to do studies. Period. But don’t think you’ll be doing this forever.

They have a pool table, and even sponsored a tournament with some small prizes. Depending on your luck you may get a lab with many windows or very few windows.I recommend avoiding binge watching TV and playing games because the isolation aspect of the study could be very bad for you.

The phlebotomists are not all trained like they claim. My first day of an In-house stay, I was stuck 7 times total, having had 5 people try to stick me. On another day, a girl trembled constantly, both hands shaking while she was preparing to stick me and also while she stuck me. She did this to 8 other people at the very least, and missed all of them including me. I also could tell she knew nothing before she stuck me when I asked the position of the vein, and she had no clue what I meant. I also found a bed bug on my bed the first day, right before I was about to sleep in my assigned bed which I had not been on the whole day. They didn’t handle that situation well either.

You can make some decent money at this place. I had my 4th screening today and Ive been unable to participate in a study yet because of my vitals being out of range, and I understand that and dont fault them for it. The staff is kind and professional. My only complaint is that they dont seem to have any consideration for YOUR time when youre on the phone or there for a screening. I was on hold yesterday for 62 minutes because there were six calls ahead of you. And today I went in for a screening, and they said to be there at 8:00am, but come in 15 or 20 minutes before that. I got there at 8:00am and wasnt called until 8:53am due to printer issues, which seems to be an ongoing problem. At 10:00am, wed only completed the consent form, and we probably had two or more hours for the physical and UA, ECG, vitals, blood draws, etc...They need to tighten up that ship and theyd be awesome.

WORST PLACE EVER ! ERRORS OF EMPLOYEES! lack of privacy in confidential information and great MALICE. Here is what happened. i have been a victime of employee errors, unfair tratment, and lack of privacy. I volunteered because i was a healthy volunteer that is able to test out a new drug. I drove to austin all the way from houston which took 3 hours. I absolutely went their prepared and ready with my body to test out the drug in which i followed all protocols and peocedures needed to be done before going there. My coming in to ppd was great, but when i went to my physical to see the doctor that was doing the Phase 1 clinical trial i felt like she said all i wanted to here and i was prepared to carry on this study. The doctors and us candidates were put in separate rooms to be screened for the study. It was my turn to be screened. When in the process of getting screened the doctor asked me why is my leg peeling, I told her i have used a Topical agent (one time on june 3rd) tretinoin which caused the peeling or maybe the dryness of my skin. After that she just stopped what she was doing and told me that I need to let the techs know. Right after she went out of the room telling the techs that i have been using bleaching creams on my hand after telling her that i use a fomula to whiten my knuckles because i have hereditary dark knuckles when being nigerian. The doctor then came to the room guiding me to where the techs were in which they told me to write the creams down. I bold faced told the lady exactly what i used two weeks before starting this clinical trial( which im eligible to join the study). I wrote it down and then the next thing you know im trying to explain to the techs that thia was used two weeks prior of me starting the study. They were not being helpfull to me at all. I then had to wait 2 hours in the lobby without getting checked in like other candidates was having being My recruiter jessica had to be contacted with information by the techs. I still waited in the lobby by myself and people would come by and ask me whats wrong. I then was put in a office by a relations manager, tech and my recruiter. I was wondering what was going on! I told them my concerns and how I was not allowed to put the correct date of my one time use of this topical agent Tretinoin 0.00025. They stated even though i have used the tretinoin cream before the cut off date, they would still have to check with the sponsor if i am eligible of being in the study since ive used this topical agent before. I then agreed and waited in the lobby for another 30 minutes. After waiting I was called by the recruiter that i am eligible for this study and that the sponsor said it was ok. I was excited and wanted to be able to stay my 8 days for this clinical trial. LONG STORY SHORT After that day on the 19th, I then had to do physicals and screening as followed. The process for ecg was very long but it was ok for me. When providing urine , i had to provide urine 2 times because, i was told by the clinic techs that I needed to be observed again when providing urine since I wasnt the first time. I was waiting while I overheard the techs gossiping with misunderstand and malice. I was told by the staff about a Mentor training a new employee and that i have to get searched again. They made me take off my hair wig which was very embarrassing and to take off my clothes again. I was very concerned about how everything went about and the errors thats these techs made FINALLY went to my designated room. UNTIL i get a visit again from the relations manager Trish. The relations manager put me in the office stating that i am getting canceled out of the clincal trial due to my interaction and communication. I was very astonished once again and asked why. She didnt have the answer why i was being excluded. All the errors of their employees was put upon me as a volunteer and this was very concerning for me! I drove 3 hours to ppd expecting equality, privacy, and respect. BUT obviously i DID NOT receive this!!!! Avoid this place. The Techs are not understanding.

I rush up to PPD excited to get my $1000 for two days worth of testing only to be informed three hours later after a third unpaid screening of blood draws and urine samples that I am a backup though the papers given to me said there would be eight subjects and only seven of us were there. To compound the insult we were rudely passed off by 3 “reception” personnel as annoyances, and after wasting more of our time, it was clear they knew in time to warn us, and didn’t.That kind of abuse speaks to complete disregard or inherent dysfunction within a company expecting us to entrust them with our health and well being...then they tried to convince us to pay hundreds more out of pocket to return?

Incredibly unprofessional staff with a “high school” attitude; constantly gossiping and complaining about how much they hate thier jobs, poor communication, and a plethora of internal issues projected into participants.Very disorganized, not because of sponsor changes, but because they can’t get thier own act together. If you have a question, don’t expect a straight answer. You’ll get a different response from anyone you ask, many having no resemblance to reality. This is ‘big pharma.’The most concerning aspect is the lack of concern. I understand there will be members of a group with different maturity levels and life experience but it’s the employee’s job to show up as a professional. The Phlebotomists are truly abysmal- cross trained desk employees, so be prepared to walk out looking like a beat up junkie. No one with the authority to address it cares, so make sure you know how to contact the local oversight regulators and report them, or nothing will change.Expect to get the runaround and to be treated like you’re an object, rather than a human being from start to finish whether it’s a reasonable question or your payment.Food is decent considering they’re feeding several studies, seems to be prepared on site, and there’s enough. To be honest the night server was the nicest person of all of the staff.I did meet some participants who became friends and not so nice ones, like any group situation. There are multiple studies happening at once. This is a huge business so don’t expect a personal approach. This is big business and they want to be doing as many studies as possible. When it comes time to get paid, don’t expect that to be smooth either. They advertise a particular rate, but make excuses to deduct from it, delay, and get you to return for additional procedures they don’t pay you for, before they mail a check to you weeks later.Based on my experience I choose not to return regardless of the compensation, and so have many others in my cohort.

Then called me and told me that I was in the study then a hour later told me I wasn’t because they made a mistake with my lab cut off time.It always seems like no one knows what’s going on or what they’re supposed to be doing and that’s concerning to me if you’re poking and prodding into my body...This is my third time with their unprofessionalism and id rather just go to WCT in San Antonio.

Two stars because they make the food on site, and because I met a really cute girl in here. Otherwise this place is just like JAIL...

They called me but I couldnt answer my phone and never got any information on a date and time for my physical through voicemail, email, or text. Tried calling back but couldnt reach them and missed my physical all together. Its been a very bad experience up to this point. Starting to feel like just a number rather than a person. You have to answer your phone when they call or youll probably miss your study and be out of luck.

Terrible. Your recruiter, Lauren G, is awful. We have a situation where my check went to someone elses house and i was contacted by them on Facebook with a picture of my check. I dont even understand how they ended up with my check in Houston, Texas when my Austin address is clearly labelled on it, but Apparently this is another participant and it was in the same envelope with his.I called and asked her about what I could do about getting my check and instead of helping me. Her response was an extremely abrasive saying that checks were not her job + hung up on me and then she began purposefully ignoring calls for the rest of the day and forwarding them to the voice messaging machine. I called in the morning around 9:45, then around lunch then one last time before I went home from work.I work in the medical field (oncology) as well and I know that when a receptionist transfers my calls to a line and it rings twice and in the middle of the ring I get the voice message prompt that Im being forwarded by the recieverI am having a hard time getting anyone to even help me on this matter - and honestly been disgusted with the whole study and its lackluster response/leadership.update, next day.5/11: The participant who has my check calls to notify about receiving my check. Receptionist hangs up the phone anytime anyone asks for Lauren. I tried to call as well, receptionist hangs up when we call. The dude is literally just trying to help me get my check or figure out what to do with it. Together we’ve made about 4 attempts. Zero communication from anyone from ppd5/14 update: we just ended up driving from Austin to Houston to pick up our check from the person they sent it to. Luckily they were a good person. Not one person called, no one even cancelled it to reimburse and correct sending to the wrong city and honestly, I think this is a confidentiality breach itself.I will not be returning for any medical studies, in the future.

The employees are very professional most of the time. The food is ok. They are one of the most stricts research clinics when it comes to entrance searches n being on time for procedures. Participants r mostly quiet n respectful. They r one of the clinics that pay the most per day n they have more studies recruiting at once than any other clinic in the US.

This place has a huge documentation and communication problem. I have signed up for multiple studies that days later just before screening I would receive a call saying I wasnt eligible because of previous info they had on file the whole time.

This has to be one of the worst racist places by far this is my second time trying a study at this Facility. So the first was a 8,000 one and the study coordinator was Lauren omg when I tell u she lies she lies! My labs were good but since they forgot my chest xray and flew people in from Vegas to save Ppd money by taking a 1,000 from those participants. I was an alternate and was suppose to roll over to the next checkin group but they had me re-screen and came up with anything to save them money plus I didn’t get paid for being an alternate or rescreening which I was told I would be Paid never happen I called and inquired about it And they continue to lie and give me the runaround. So I just came in re-screen for the $12,000 study and once again my labs were good but since I complained about Lauren they called me back and said my ECG was off and I could not rescreen for the study at all smh go figure. Thanks a lot ppd for wasting my time and money there is more but I rather get my complaint to subject relations or Study sponsors who will do something about.

June 1stDo not waste your with this damn time. This place has kids playing all day. No one know nothing. The cordinators are all liars. They know our study was on a holiday. Two part study and no one has our money. As if ppl dont have bills. Horrible food and housing. If you want to go and be stuck 40 plus times and resticked and dose and not get any money this is the place is for you. Idk what study facility that is still using checks. Everyone is using cards.

Horrible experience with them. Scheduled me for study in December And I call to confirm a few weeks later and they say I missed my study in November????? The November study was full when I first called so I took the December study date instead but apparently it was not and without telling me I was booked for it,all the while thinking im in for december! Now Im out of luck for both. Playing with people and like this is not right. Especially when it comes to amounts of money like this! This isnt $5. Its thousands that I was counting on! Now nothing!!
