Its not about office staff (although most have no issues. Generally nice - but you should also be nice to them)... its about what a doctor sees that you cant when you tell him your symptoms. Its about making you feel as if your issues are important. He pushes for quality care and has the audacity to push you to do what he feels you ABSOLUTELY MUST do. Other doctors might give you options... but the right doctor will stand up to you and insist that you what he knows is right. All of this, though, doesnt mean hes not helpful and friendly - and can explain things on your terms when you have questions. I was seeing another doctor who thought I was just depressed and encouraged me to go read Harry Potter... seriously. I switched to Cox years ago because he found a major problem this other doctor didnt bother understand or diagnose the problem better. General physicians have a tough time keeping up with all the latest-greatest. I think Dr. Cox is one of those who is passionate about his work and his patients.

I’ve been going to Dr. Cox for about three years. He’s no-nonsense yet friendly and he cares about the patient. He’s current in the field but is willing to say he’s not sure. Sometimes he’s a fraction busier than I would like, but I’ve never been rushed out of the office before I’m done with my questions. Meanwhile, Dr. Russell has served as an excellent back-up if/when needed. Finally, I’ve NEVER had a problem with the staff, from the front desk to the nurses. Overall, I am quite happy with the medical care and service I have been getting here.

Ive been seeing Dr. Cox for many years, and highly recommend him, and his team. He stays up to date on current medical issues, is willing to listen to my concerns, and has always given me good advice. His practice is pretty busy now, and to get a routine appointment like a physical you need to sign up months in advance, if you have a preferred date/time. Ive seen other doctors and staff in his practice, and have always gotten good service. The nurses are great, and give the most painless injections Ive ever gotten. Ive never had a long wait time when I go in for an appt, unlike some of the other reviews have stated, except when I went in as a walk-in, unscheduled patient, which is understandable. As far as the office staff, Ive never had a problem with them. They have an onsite lab where you can get blood work done, which is very convenient.

Dr. Cox has been our GP for several years now - cant say enough good things about him. He really listens - we had been dealing with an issue for years and FINALLY a doctor heard what we were saying and as a result a serious medical condition was uncovered that if untreated can be devastating. Also makes you feel good when you go to a specialist and they know him and refer to him as A Good Egg :)

I’ve had Dr. Cox as my physician for over 15 years and I love going to see him. He’s my husband’s physician and saw my second son during his teen years. He always asks after all my family and wants to know about what’s going in my life. I appreciate him taking a non medical approach first, then prescribing drugs , if needed. I have had a few problems with billing, i.e. bills arriving months later or my husband’s coming to me, but I have been able to straighten it out each time. I also like having the option of a Nurse Practioner when I’m sick and need to get in today.

Dr. Cox is great but unfortunately the back office at South Oaks is so terrible I will not go back. Mis-billings, rudeness, and overall incompetence. They had the nerve to tell me they only bill once a year but said they had sent me 5 invoices for an appointment I never had. Throw it to collections because I will never pay. Sorry Dr. Cox. Let me know when you join a better office.

Our entire family sees Dr. Geoffrey Cox at South Oaks Family Medicine (SOFM). We first started seeing him when we moved to Austin in 2003, and even though we now live on the other side of Austin, we continue to use this practice and Dr. Cox. We have never had such an attentive, thorough, and personable family physician, and we cant imagine going anywhere else.Dr. Coxs staff is always able to work us in for a same day appointment, generally with him, but if not, with another doctor or nurse practitioner. The offices nurses are also to be commended. They are wonderfully friendly and nice, and there is very little staff turnover, which is so helpful and reassuring. We have found Dr. Cox to be intelligent, thoughtful, caring, and attentive. He is very open and flexible in his treatment approaches and well-informed about new and emerging treatments. No matter what may be wrong or what sort of treatment you prefer (natural, homeopathic, etc.), you wont feel awkward at all; and you will find Dr. Cox to be very knowledgeable about a variety of treatment options. Never have we found a primary care physician so willing to listen to us and to involve us in the process of making choices about our healthcare.Although we had always used a pediatrician for our son, this practice and Drs. Cox and SOFM both came highly recommended to us, and so we thought we would try it. Our son trusts Dr. Cox and his partners completely and feels very safe in at SOFM, and weve been delighted at the advantages that come from all seeing the same physician. He knows our family histories well, and hes always well informed about what is going on in our lives. Over the years Ive seen that Dr. Cox, his partners, the nurses, and the office staff work equally well with children, teenagers, adults, and the elderly. All in all, I know Dr. Cox and South Oaks Family Medicine care about our family, and I wouldnt be happy entrusting our health to anyone else.
