Horrible treated me like a child dint let me have soda after 7 at night, only let me have an hour of game time a day , did not let me have jack anything any I went straight from a group home at 18! I was my own guardiain even to these guys hands and the group home gave me more freedom,these guys didnt even let me have freedom of religion, or watch r rated movies or movies that have any supernatural anything it as a hfa, I can say this was a horrible experience.

My experience as a former employee of ESM (Empowering Supporting Mentoring) is not positive to say the least. Throughout my time working with them, they make promises that in the end arent kept, they treat their employees like slaves with no concern of financial or emotional distress. They believe that when working at ESM it should be your number 1 priority, drop for ESM. Which I hold my jobs as my biggest priorities, but when you have a second job and or a life outside of work ESM doesnt want to understand that. Some people have other jobs, kids, husbands, etc that they also need to keep track of.. I also made an agreement with the person who hired me during the interview, the agreement was.. if I needed any upcoming days off (for my second JOB) then as long as I asked in advance (one or two weeks) everything would be fine. The first day I needed off for my second job, everything was fine, except when they forget about it and call me to tell me that I need to come in and then blame it on me saying I never asked for it off and it will show up as a no call no show. That was also a battle to get off my record (for something that I didnt even do! something that I took the RIGHT steps that THEY ASKED).. the second time I needed a day off, I got a reprimand, and the third time I was told that they cant be having this behavior anymore because if this job were really your priority then I would stop asking for days off for my second job and that I would be fired shortly if I did not comply. After being treated like absolute crap as an employee I started to notice the care of the consumers, or lack there of. The only people that had compassion for the clients were the actual Support Staff or some of them. Other than that the company is okay with neglect and abuse. They are okay with receiving a fine for leaving consumers with no Med. Certified Support Staff instead of finding an actual solution so that consumers can be passed meds during their window. They will hire people that yell at consumers and demean them, make them feel lesser than. They take shortcuts in counting meds and subtract the number given each night from the number from the previous night. They discourage people who have talent, talents that calm them and help them with some of their conditions and or anxiety. They told a boy who was 20 and loved to draw and paint that he could not go to art classes for behavioral issues, but I then asked if he were ever allowed to go?.. still a no.. Maybe he wouldnt have so many behavioral issues, if you let him have his natural way of calming down. When you sit with a consumer and he almost starts to cry because he has no other outlet, he feels like he has no place to go when being ganged up on and art is his only escape.. its sad. so according to ESM it makes sense to take away things from their consumers, that they love, that they have always done and more importantly something that could very well help them. I would not recommend putting a loved one in ANY of their homes.
