I dont know how you could honestly call this an emergency room. Been bleeding in need of stitches for over 6 hours in the waiting room, I cant even get first aid supplies from the front desk much less see a doctor. If you have ANY other option, please go somewhere else. If you are experiencing an actual medical emergency, you could die putting your life in this facilitys hands.

Would give 0 stars if I could. Staff failed on literally every level. Not a single person listened to me. They were rather loose in enforcing HIPAA regulations. I was left for my condition to visibly deteriorate while the staff only continued on their FALSE assumption of my ailment. Someone needs to teach these people how to LISTEN TO PATIENTS!!! This is your job as the front line staff in the emergency room. We left the ER after an hour because the treatment was so bad. I would rather die at home then ever visit there again.

I do not write reviews at all, but the experience Ive encountered at MaineGeneral Medical Centers Emergency Room has compelled me to write this. I was the overseer for my parent who had an abnormal large fever and horrible physical pains and headaches. We waited a total of 4 hours just to leave the ER because the wait for a room seemed worthless due to nurses and the front desk constantly saying that the wait would be 15 minutes multiple times and truly not being accurate or even considerate to any patient. I asked politely if there was anything or any place that would be more comfortable since this parent had joint issues and needed to lie down on a flat surface and the most they could do was a blanket when the patient was struggling to keep stable from dizziness. If you are truly in need of health services and care this is not the place to go to.If you are prepared to die or suffer in an emergency room waiting area where the workers are not understanding and do not care about their patients, then this is the place for you.

They put me in a padded room, wrongfully, and told me to take Tylenol for my pain, which i explained i’d been on. i waited for 6 hours while i watched them goof off behind the doors and waste time. they lied about almost every single thing while i was there, wait time, things they had available, much much more. I walked out. Awful care everytime I go there, and the doctors do not care about you or what happens to you. Enough is enough.

Do NOT go here if you have an emergency! I was in the waiting room with my significant other for over 4 hours while he had blood dripping down his hand! I asked many times what the time frame would be because he was literally bleeding from his hand and they just sat and watched him… if you can prevent going to this facility… try and go somewhere else.

I wanted to give a Zero but the doctor and nurses tried. I went in with chest pains (backstory; I am 67 with a family history of heart problems) After we get checked in the triage nurse takes BP, oxygen levels and gives me 4 baby aspirin to chew then says the wait could be 6 and a half hours to see the Dr!! The Waiting Room is packed. An hour later, I get a blood draw and am told they will come get me for an EKG. After three more hours of waves of chest pains my husband asked when I am going to get an EKG. Oh, they will put me a the top of the list...twenty minutes later it takes more time to put the electrodes on than the EKG takes. Meanwhile back in the Waiting Room; two young men had been waiting with severe vomiting, one was very dehydrated and the other couldnt feel his hands or feet. The dehydrated man waited 9 hours to see a Dr! Couldnt he have been on an IV the whole time? The other man felt better and was tempted to leave (which many waiting did as the tech people would come out and call a name with no response) I finally saw a Dr after waiting over 7 hours. Many tests later it was determined to be a hiatal hernia (at least it wasnt my heart; I could have died waiting) One nurse told us the average wait is 9 hours for ER nationwide. We Googled it and the average in Maine is 23 minutes, nationwide is 45 minutes. DO NOT GO TO THIS HOSPITAL UNLESS YOU ARE BLEEDING SEVERELY OR UNCONSCIOUS. The whole time we were there no one cleaned a chair or picked up trash on the floor. The bathrooms were briefly cleaned twice. The pop machine would not vend the 4 bottles of water left, saying it was empty and there was no where to get a drink because the fountains were no operable. There were not enough chairs to sit in and few outlets to charge a phone. After the vomiting man was called back the wheelchair and blanket he used stayed in the same place for at least three more hours. We felt like we were in a third world country sitting in that waiting room.

This organization is a joke. Wife and I had Covid for nearly 14 days. The doctor was just flat out rude and didn’t want to help. In fact she said that out vitals were just fine and our pain would go away at some point. She did ZERO tests and then proceeded to tell us that we should have gotten the vaccine sooner if we were really concerned about Covid! Then with my wife and I stunned, she told us to leave or she was calling security. We’re still floored at the unprofessionalism of this organization and this doctor!

Went in last night for chest pains and shortness of breath as express care presumed I had a pulmonary embolism. With having chest pains for well over 10 hours, I sat in the waiting room for 6.25 hours before I gave up. The front desk lady corrected me when I stated “I’ve been in here for 10 hours.” She looked me up and replied “actually it’s been 6.25” and I replied that I’ve had chest pains for several hours and literally only needed a CT to rule out blood clots..no. They take blood 16 times blowing my veins and an X-ray, but can’t do the one thing the express care doctor wanted.. as well as sitting in the waiting room amongst others. Terrible place. The doctors are nice and some of the staff, but some staff should realize that some patients have been there longer than their shift and maybe shouldn’t be rude to the consumers. But hey, I didn’t die, so I get to call my primary tomorrow woohoo...Also this place left one of my conditions untreated for several years , discharging me for multiple things that made no sense. When I was old enough I self-diagnosed and advocated for myself, they actually listened, but it was too late and now I’m having multiple surgeries to fix a situation that would’ve been so small if they didn’t just want to get people out so much.I get hospitals are generally about the money and as long as they’re paid they’re good, but geez, half the people who walked out tonight should’ve stayed and been treated waaaaay before anyone. They Sat in the waiting room longer than I.

Slowest ER I have ever been in. The wait is beyond redlicous. I HIGHLY recommend instead of going here to travel to a diffrent ER! Trust me you will get help be out and home before you would ever even get a room at maine general.

This Hospital truly does not care about their patients. I think they actually enjoy making you sit around for 6 hours while nothing gets accomplished. If you show up in pain you will leave in pain.

Been sitting in the waiting room for over an hour. We are the only people in the waiting room, but have been told they have no beds and are in the middle of shift change. So I guess no one gets treated during shift change. It would make more since to stager the shift change so people are not sitting in a waiting room for an hour when they are the only person waiting and as far as not having beds well you have a multi million dollar building it sounds like poor planning when it was built. Just goes to show no matter how much money is spent and how much you upgrade the equipment it does not make it better because it was just like this in there old building.

Almost killed me. After fighting the ‘doctor’ aka PA for a medicine to treat a condition I’ve had 3 times prior I was reluctantly given it (also had to beg PA to call the on call gastro doc like I was begging for pain killers. No. This was for an antibiotic)Thankfully I went to an out of state hospital who successfully treated me and I’ve had no issue since. Sadly you will wait in this ER for 5+ hours as my son did with cellulitis, or any other conditions. I understand they see and triage people and get ambulances BUT HIRE MORE PEOPLE.

Have been here for over 6 hours so far in a hallway bed still no closer to any answers....how much are they charging for this? Perhaps I was being unreasonable when we were sitting in the hall for four hours listening to the Triage nurse discussing medical issues with the patient and the doctor discussing the suicidal thoughts of a patient. The nurse was willing to help once we decided we have had enough because Nobody deserves to be treated this way. Yes totally unreasonable...

Was very disappointed going here and would not really recommend the Emergency Room to anyone. Was sent there by Express Care because they could not do a CT scan or other testing so the ER was the only option. Waited for nearly 4 hours to be seen and then waited again. Doctor really wasnt listening nor did she seem to care and basically said nothing she could do and I can call my provider in the morning as they were already closed from waiting so long. Some people that worked here were nice and I dont fault them for how poorly this place treats people. Never again would I go to this emergency room. 4 hours as a normal wait time is completely wrong and the fact that they have it on their sign 2 to 4 hour wait is normal please do not attack the staff as that is a felony, seriously this is a sign in the waiting area. Highly recommend finding someplace else to go.
