Better than our last camp site we were at near cape cod. Literally on top of other campers. This place kinda spaced for the more part, still kinda close for my liking. And the picture they showed of the camp site definitely didnt look like it. That one was much more remote. But the one great thing I can say bout this place is the check in lady Sue was a pleasure to deal with and every helpful. Will post pictures tomorrow when I take some.

We stayed at Calef Lake Campground for a couple of nights. We were on site 10-A (pic attached). The site was at an angle, a bit awkward but the benefit of the angle was privacy. We did not use the bathrooms, so cannot comment. The campground was clean. The staff was wonderful. Sue made our stay memorable and was beyond kind. Terry helped us get setup and leveled (I am handicapped and my husband is older, we are not able to go under the RV to place our blocks) and Butch helped us when we departed. Could not speak better of these folks. This is a family friendly campground and quiet. We will definitely be back. Thanks to everyone, especially Sue! See you again!

Its okay. Being in the middle of nowhere, I got the service I needed and the place was clean. There is no one around after 7 so better get there early. Quiet but some of the campsites are too close to each other. Good thing Theresa no swimming pool. Basic running water and toilets but didnt see the showers or maybe they were locked in the morning until the person arrives at 9.

During our July, 2021 camping trip, observed raw sewerage breaking out of the leaching mound by the basketball court. Created a 14 x 6 flow directly across the walking path by the lake to the campsites. Lasted 4 days. Notified management, who replied we have had alot of rain. No - rain runs off, sewerage breaks out. This system is in hydraulic failure. No concern was evident. Stay healthy and avoid this place!

If you are tent camping or have a camper van or just dont need hookups, definitely pick a tent site in the back past the beaver pond (I stayed at T6 which was nice and quiet and spaced far enough from other sites, so I had a peaceful time). There are a lot of seasonal family campers here with kids and dogs close together with their stuff all setup to the max so if you are anywhere near them there will be lights and noise at night and youll feel like youre in a residential trailer park. The bathrooms and showers were clean and nice. Dump station available, water spigots too, and many port-a-jons if you dont want to walk all the way to the main bathroom building. There are even individual shower rooms open during the daytime that are very spacious and have their own sink and toilet. Laundry machines worked fine. They do trash pickup daily and you just leave your trash bag on the road (which was kind of strange to me, because at the same time they mention to be bear aware). Unfortunately the firewood was pretty damp due to the way it is stored outside on the ground under a tarp, so be aware (also, the pieces are really small). Overall I had a great experience and choosing my campsite carefully from the map beforehand definitely helped with that.

My husband, brother, sister-in-law and myself stayed there this weekend for our honeymoon! It was the best experience I have had with a campsite. Everyone in the store and around the campgrounds was nice. The gentleman who comes around to pick up the trash is really friendly and helpful. We rented the luxury tent which had electric, water, a queen bed, a twin trundle bed, 2 aderandack chairs and a little sitting area. It was amazing! Our last night it rained pretty hard but the entire inside of the tent was dry! We went paddle boarding and double kayaking! Definitely a great place for family or some quality alone time. We are definitely coming back. Hopefully in a cabin next time!

The camping experience was ok. Bathrooms were clean and everything was organized. My biggest complaint is that the shop sold us wood for a fire that was wet and could not be dried out. As a camp ground, you’d think you would know to not keep wood sitting in a pile on the ground but that’s where it was kept with a tarp covering it. This resulted in all the wood being soaked and there was no kindling/ dry kindling to help start the fire. Additionally, this was definitely a campground for seasonal pass holders and many people had lights and string lights outside of their areas. This made it feel like I was in more of a trailer park than actual camping as there was no lights out time. Lights were on all night and you could not see the sky the same due to the light pollution. Wouldn’t recommend this if you’re looking to get away from lights/ sounds/ people.

This is a nice family campground in the woods. Very clean and well maintained. We visited right after a big rainstorm that caused some damage and it rained while we were there. We did not get to use the beach or swim because of the weather. It is a mostly seasonal campground. Because of the weather the mosquitoes were ferocious. If you are looking for a quiet place in the woods to spend a few days, I would recommend Calef Lake. Just don’t forget your bug spray and screen house.

Pros: 45 minutes from Boston, Full hook ups, nice little beach, good for kids, two ponds to Kayak on, pets allowed, quiet at night, some sites have crushed stone and patios, staff was fabulous! Cons: camp store is not well stocked, sites not private, lots of full time seasonals, Very close to road we could see headlights at night. All in all I would say Great for a weekend trip. The campground was beautiful, however it was mostly seasonal campers. There was so much light pollution due to the rope lights and string lights I felt like I was camping in Times Square NYC. Lights were on all day and night. I would not go back unless the owners adopted a lights out time. I camp to get away from the city not to camp with city lights shining through my blinds all night. Too bad, because the campground was in a really nice area and on a beautiful lake

This campground keeps improving every year.. thanks to the leadership of the two owners Frank and Dave, and their wonderful staff including Butch, Sue, Jodi, the two Jenns, Jerry, and of course the woman who keeps the bathrooms immaculate. (Sorry if I forgot someone). Well be back next year for an even longer stay!Updated October 2020.. Weve stayed here several times and did again this year for a few weeks. This campground is top quality and keeps improving. Clean grounds, immaculate and upgraded bathrooms & showers, super helpful staff. Now has WiFi and online reservations. Tent sites are the same sites they allow campers in so the ground is hard and lumpy, beach is tiny and people have no problem fishing within the designated swimming area. Friday night was rediculous with noise, management says it must be quiet after 11pm but things didnt die down until 130 am. Saturday was a great day noise was kept to a minimum only downfall was the firewood we bought from the campground was still wet and wouldnt burn. All in all Im leaving 3 stars as its our first experience at this campground and hopefully its not always like this. People there were pretty friendly, boat rentals were cheap and the bath houses were clean at all times and porta potties were conveniently located all around the grounds.

Its a small campground around a little lake. Friendly and helpful staff, bathrooms and showers were cleaned and maintained daily but floors were always wet. The sites are somewhat small, close together, and lots of trees to avoid. The site we had was very tricky to pull into, without the staff helping I would have had a very hard time. Lots of seasonals. Overall, its quiet, clean, affordable, and close to Manchester and lots to do.

Just spent 4 days at Calef (Thursday through Sunday night). It was a great experience. The park was clean, neat, and very well cared for. We were parked in the first spot next to a bridge over a small stream and near the playground. There were groups of polite, respectful kids fishing, catching frogs, playing tag, and generally having a great time without direct adult supervision. (I thought I was in a time warp!) We were apprehensive about the space when we first arrived, but it was great and quiet. EVERYONE was polite and helpful. The seasonal residents were a joy - Thanks Jami, for the parking assistance! The staff was warm and friendly. The showers are essentially private bathrooms. The free barbeque and concert ended in time for total quiet by 10PM on Saturday night. We will be back when we visit family in New Hampshire next year.

We stayed there last year. Came back this year. New owners. They seem to be coasting on the existing set up and not trying to do anything more. The bathrooms were not cleaned once in the entire 8 days we were there. Toilet paper ran out on day 3 and stayed that way. The dumpster was full of trash for the first 4 days and stunk to high heaven. It was completely full again by day 8. The campgrounds are sand. There was sand everywhere in my RV and all over everything outside. They really need gravel in each site. No one escorts you to your site and after that I wasn’t sure anyone works there. The store office has short varied hours. Looking for a different place to stay next year.

The campground is on the lake so there is a small beach and you can rent boats. We will definitely be back!

I generally do not share super personal information in my reviews, but I feel some back story is necessary. I spent many years here growing up as a seasonal. Years later my mother also became seasonal. We were familiar with all the staff and Bo was so amazing and kind. When we moved, we had no choice but to say goodbye to Calef lake and part ways. Believe me, Ive missed it greatly. Years later, I have a family of my own and we wanted to try something that my family had not tried before.I want to say, I did NOT have a bad time. I had a great time with my family. We mostly stuck to ourselves because I know, as a previous seasonal camper, some other seasonal people can be a bit much and a bit too personal / nosey. When I arrived, I checked into the store and thats when I noticed it was so different. All the pictures were gone. All the memories of the bass fishing and just all the amazing times we all had were gone. I had asked what happened to them and thats when I was informed Bo sold the place in February. I was told the 2 men outside the store were the ones who bought it. I asked how the season was and how she liked the new owners, and I was given a neutral answer. But basically thats all that was said. So, not wanting to pry OR cry because I would have loved to see Bo after all these years, I carried on with my day.Later on some of the seasonals had come up to our site asking us a bunch of questions. Why we had a dock in the water. I dont know, I didnt put it there. Then we were asked why we were running electricity from our vehicle. More and more questions. Then they made the comment that we were there a few weeks ago, but we were NOT. I felt like my husband and I had to defend ourselves with every question. We do not smoke, drink, do drugs, gamble, or anything of the sort. We just wanted a weekend getaway camping. Just go do something else please.Anyhow, as we stayed the weekend we did have a bunch of fun. Just enjoying the water and peace and quiet (for the most part). They had a cornhole game, a dance, Tie dye shirts for the kids, and all the usual fun things. They did a 50/50 raffle and the guy who picked the name picked his own name. 😒 It really should be structured differently. People who play should not be picking the numbers but thats just my opinion. So some things never change I guess. Its always been like that. But things are different now for sure. I used to see Bo and crew cleaning out porta-potties but I did not see a single truck clean out a bathroom during our visit. It was the first time in my life having to use Calef Lake porta potties that were disgusting and stunk like you wouldnt believe. The trash dumpster was overflowing so bad we had to bring our trash home with us.And quite honestly, at best most of the staff were just neutral and it just did not have that same personal connection. My upbeat, friendly and genuine conversation starters died as soon as my words left my mouth with most staff. There are many emotions that run through me when I think of this place because I had spent so many years here. But this time, I felt like I was living in an alternate timeline.

Over the weekend my girlfriend and I had stayed two nights at calef lake in the wilderness area. During our stay, unfortunately it had raind both evenings. Leaving us tent bound. On a loud scale from 1/10 it was a 4 briefly a 6. Spacious sites could fit two cars and two tent, no problem. A kind staff left me questioning other reviews. I believe they offer year round stay so there are trailers that are established an RV area and a tent area. We felt safe. I would recommend it and return.

We are contractors from Alabama performing a job in New Hampshire. Since we live in our 5th wheel while on the road, we needed a nice place to stay until December of this year. From the moment I made the reservation, I knew that I would love the place, and we do!!! The owners are extremely nice, friendly, decent people. They have been more than helpful to us, as the season ends in October but we will be in NH longer, they graciously agreed to let us stay in one of their long term year round sites until our job is complete. The majority of campers have been coming to Calef Lake for the summer months for YEARS!!! They are extremely friendly and fun loving. Everyone seems to respect the quiet time which is nice for us as we have to get up early for work each day. We have been on the road traveling for the last 8 years and this campground has been the best place we have stayed so far. It is hard to work and live away from home, but being at Calef Lake makes it feel that we are on vacation after work and on the weekends. And with all of the longtime residents knowing each other and being so friendly to newcomers, there is really a sense of community here. All of the sites are well maintained and perfectly clean upon arrival. The sunsets over Calef Lake are breathtaking also. We have made quite a few friends, including the owners, and will definitely be sad when we have to leave. The laundry is nice and it is cleaned every day, as are the bathrooms. The two bathrooms behind the laundry room are spacious, clean and private! It is amusing to me to read complaints about bugs. Mosquitoes are part and parcel when it comes to camping and being outside enjoying nature!!! Just use bug spray and youll be fine. I give Calef Lake five stars and would give more if I could!!! We love it here!

Was strongly considering moving my camper here for a seasonal camp. I used to bring my kayak and park on the side of the road at the only access point to enjoy some fishing. They fenced up the entire area and posted at least 4 no parking signs. So much for your avg joe to get some fishing in. There reasoning must have been to force people to pay them there day pass rate of 10ish dollars a day. Times must be tough. Oh well guess Ill just have to let everyone know your a bunch of crooks and not to camp there. Yet another on of NH hidden gems taken away by the rich. After calling and speaking with the owners daughter in law was called back and threatened. All I asked was who put if the fence and that it was going to piss off a lot of people.

Calef Lake Camping Area was just not for us. We camped from Saturday to Tuesday this past week. We had 4 adults, 2 tents, 2 cars and 2 canopies on Wilderness Double Site 7. The site had some uneven spots, some rocky spots plus a puddle even though it had not rained for a full day. It was tough to pick good spots for two tents, even though it is advertised (and charged) as a double site. The fire pit was oddly built up on three sides in log cabin-fashion with logs made of a cinder block material. We had to take the top layer off to be able to appreciate the campfire and it was quite narrow.Saturday night had a Chinese Buffet then DJ music at the beach which we did not attend but it seemed like a lot of the seasonal residents did. It really put the whole campground in a festive (partying) mood. It was louder than we would prefer. I personally go camping for the sounds of nature. We then had a nearby seasonal resident stay up into the early morning hours talking very loudly. He was very nice when, at 2:30 am, I finally asked him to quiet down. He really was understanding but also drunk (he told me that he was) so forgot to be quiet about 15 minutes later. From other reviews, I have the impression that the CG owners prefer the seasonal campers so I was hesitant to complain any further. A lot of people cleared out of the campground on Sunday and even more on Monday. It was very quiet for our second half of the stay. The Wilderness site 7 is a 6-minute walk to the bathroom. I timed it. So you really do need to plan ahead. There were two porta-potties much closer but when we arrived, they were both quite full. One was practically to the top. They were finally emptied Monday afternoon. The bathroom had four stalls and no locks on any of the doors. I have no idea why, nor did we ever have any problems because of it; it was just weird. It was clean for the most part, not too buggy. One of the shower stalls had an Out of Order sign on it and on Monday morning, when I went to shower, the other showers coin machine had a jam. Fortunately, one of the staff members was cleaning the mens room and he was very friendly and directed me toward the Laundry Room / Showers house closer to the Office. He had just cleaned it. Holy Cow!! This was the closest to being in your own bathroom back home while camping; it was so nice! Worth the extra walk...The campground is 5 or 10 minute drive away from the Audubon Center and some wonderful nature walks. Some of the trails/fire roads will lead you to Battery Point, a beautiful lookout spot onto Massabesic Lake. I recommend taking the side trails off the main fire road, but wear bug spray! We went both Sunday and Monday and really enjoyed the area.I give Calef Lake Camping Area three stars because I think that I would have really liked this place if we were only there mid-week. But, since I camp on long weekends, I personally will not return.
