I’ve donated a bit of money to this place but have never visited. Seems, from what I’ve read, their doing a great job. Their not perfect in in one sense but in another they are. Hats off to the employees for doing their best and hats off for the idea of the place to begin with. Let’s go America!

Staff is inconsiderate and very unprofessional...there are 2 maybe 3 guys that have been homeless and addicted and understand that people sometimes make bad choices and they dont need anyone kicking then while theyre down and out...I personally believe in God and see him working in my life everyday, but not everyone believes what I believe and some do not want it forced upon them...just a thought. Bug infested hate infested and the favorite game is played more then Id like to share...all considered if your cold hungry and dirty a need to remedy these problems the mission is there...just be prepared

I stayed at the mission for 6 months. I feel some of the reviews are unfair. The staff works on your behalf to help you get established and back on your own again. If you are willing to get and stay sober this place is awesome. The staff is great. Had no problems with any of them. When you read the tough reviews, keep in mind where you are at; you are at a shelter!! and get to the fact that you got yourself there!😀 Great staff and programs for the hurting and a short time of your life.

Honestly the rescue mission in Atlantic City is the worst place you can go if you are homeless for the following reasons1. There are very few programs that are designed to actually help people find employment and housing2. The atmosphere is extremely depressing3. The staff could care less about the residents safety and overall well being4. They actually throw more people out then they take in due to being overcrowded5. They push an extremist christan agenda and bash anyone with different beliefs than their ownSo if you can find another form of shelter avoid this place at all costs

The Atlantic City Rescue Mission Has been Helping People Greatly , I Have Been To The Establishment Alot , Almost Daily For A Few Weeks Now . I Come In The Morning And See Breakfast Being Served For The Residents And Homeless , I See Nice Meals Prepared For Lunch And Dinner . The staff Is respectful and courteous , Through Brief Conversation With Residents , Guest and Staff I learned about programs to help those in need gain skills necessary for employment and permanent residency . Staff is on site to help connect guest and residents with proper agency’s and facilities where whatever help they be in need of outside of what the mission has to offer .

Better than the Camden shelter. More beds available here and three meals a day. Case management available. If you follow the rules and the instructions of your counselor, they will help you slowly but surely get your life (work, school, programs, income, welfare programs) back together and get you on your feet within a year, often way sooner depending on how much you put into it. Good luck and god be with you.

I have volunteered at the mission for years and I want to start out by saying I’m am the complete opposite of a biased person who would give reviews based off relationships with people and the establishment. I base my opinion off completely from what I have witnessed and seen at the mission. First of all the mission is doing a hundred times better then it was . Over the years they have been more organized staff has been built up to be stronger and more of a team . Work programs have been put in place for clients to earn a certificate and then be helped placed into real jobs. They have a program that helps anybody get into housing . The floors to the women’s and kids are locked and secured to keep any type of harm from coming to them. There well being and safety is prioritized. The mission is set up completely and nothing different from a rehabilitation from drugs, depression, mental issues, poverty, housing .. ect. Anybody who has a negative opinion about the mission is most likely basing there opinions off of situations they have seen but have not bothered to stay around and see if those issues were corrected and fixed when found out about . Problems happen everywhere .. certain employees may make mistakes . What matters is if the establishment is correcting and understanding these many problems that come along with such difficult job in rehabilitating people with so many different issues this world brings. To wrap it up before anyone makes there negative opinions they should go to the mission and speak to not one but multiple people including clients and staff.. ask about the programs ask to be shown how they work and how they are helping people rather then taking advantage of them . From my experiences the mission is doing everything they should be doing with the limited resources and help they are left with . People lives have been changed and certain people have dedicated there lives to volunteering at the mission in respect to how the mission has helped them . Anybodys experience will be based off of how much they want to help themselves rather then take advantage of the missions limited resources and helping hearts that are actually there.

This is a very compassionate and caring place. I usually find that people who complain about it do not like the safety protocols and boundaries that the Rescue Mission has in place to protect all and to minister in a fair and balanced way. Just check out what their work and all the volunteers on Thanksgiving Day and youll see for yourself.

I had to stay there a month or two in late 2014. The place was very dirty. First floor women’s bathroom was absolutely disgusting. It was a disease waiting to happen.Women had to pass a number of men, waiting in the first floor hallway for beds, while going to the elevator to get to the women’s floor. One of the staff women on the female floor was extremely rude and about as un-Christian as one can be. She had absolutely no empathy. Some of the other women staff did care about the people. There’s an obligation that you either attend evening Bible studies or you have to leave the building during that time. I, fortunately, still managed to keep a car, and left to go to recovery meetings in the community during that time. They have a major limit on what belongings could be brought into the building and, again, thank God I had a car to store some belongings.Residents were required to leave during the day to seek work. I understand that. Women were allowed to stay in a room all day if need be off of the main lobby. The food wasn’t bad and they served enough to be filling. They did connect me with “Helping Hands” partial care program during the day and a van transported those of us to the program in Galloway Township. One evening I had an argument with the rude female staff member on the female floor. She would force people to take showers as soon as they arrived on the floor. Again, understandable that people do need to be clean to avoid bugs and illness. But, having had depression and anxiety, I needed a little time to work up the energy to wait in line and to shower. Showering is a major chore for people who are depressed, though I did do it daily and kept clean. However, the rude staff member had me banned after I made a comment she didn’t like. Now, I had absolutely no place to go. I am not a violent person in the least. They say they don’t turn anyone away. Bull!A set of circumstances did end up leading me, during the next month, to the Rescue Mission in Trenton. That Mission doesn’t hide behind Christian rhetoric, although I very much believe in God. It was cleaner. It offered many services to help people get on their feet if they partake of the help. They also helped me to get housing, counseling, Medicaid, food stamps, medical care and eventually SSDI.I don’t think the AC Mission is run as professionally or smoothly as the Mission in Trenton. The Trenton Mission has been around since the beginning of the 1900’s and has worked out its kinks over those years. It also has a 6-month residential addictions treatment program for men, next door, for those who want it.The Trenton Mission also has a day shelter where people can sit to stay out of the elements and lunch is available.I didn’t see any bedbugs during my stay (all of 2015). I am reading and have heard AC Mission has a problem with this. The Trenton Mission also had a washer and dryer on the women’s floor. They periodically provided toiletry/hygiene bags. One of the most important things is that men and women were kept separately in the evening when everyone was in the shelter for the night. Women had a separate entryway to their floor. Men and women ate separately. The Mission also had a courtesy store with free clothes available after dinner. Breakfast was also served separately in the morning. People went to their floors at 4 pm. It kept me safe off the streets. So, this is lengthy but my impression. Some missions are better than others.By the way, I was literally on the streets in Camden for a week in the freezing winter of 2015 before a hospital sent me to Trenton. I couldn’t even get a bed anywhere because I wasn’t a resident of Camden County. Can I ask a pertinent question? How can you be a resident of anywhere if you are homeless? That question got me kicked out of the social services building.Honest to God, I was a Physician Assistant, in my career, treated with utmost respect.I ended up homeless and suddenly I was treated like a total criminal!!!

Dirty place to stay Tim hunt is a real theif all the real good stuff that gets donated goes on eBay or other stores that the ceo has off the island. So nobody no’s it’s coming from the mission. They let hand picked people live in another part of the shelter that are 2 men rooms they give them tv microwave, etc they stay there for 5 years and up they let them run the store parking lot the warehouse where all donations are delivered.I say handpicked cause they either help Tim hunt to steal the donations or look the other way they get free living for years and the shelter saves money on payroll cause they don’t have to hire people from the street very smart it don’t cost the shelter knothing to let them live there for 5/6 years at a time Tim won’t let people stay there in methadone but he goes to John brooks himself for methadone treatment!!!!!!!!!!

Where do i begin with this lengthy honest review from a observing point of view.First and formost the place is a shelter for transients & familys in need and the only one in Atlantic County besides the Covenant House which houses youth ages 18 to 21.Now to the truth and facts about this 501 chapter 3 non profit, Talk about corruption its on a massive scale.i will disclose no employees names due the illegal nature of some of these & thier actions.First there was a high ranking Chief whos daughter was employed there also and she was caught forging company checks in his name which is a big nono and falls under identity forgery and when she was caught nothing happened but a dismissal and termination, without reporting this act to local authorities.then there is the fact that the mission is tax exempt under the 501 chapter 3 and certain employees use company funds to purchase personal products from various locations wawa, staples etc while its written off as Mission purchases at when in fact it anything but.And this one is probly the most arduous and immoral on so far.Now any employee who works at the Atlantic city Rescue signs clauses and contracts to remain and follow the given policy and being that it is a Christian Based recovery program i find it very tasteless that a former and current employee was caught in the john brooks recovery center program for suboxine whist employeed and that not being the issue at hand, the issue is this individual was selling his suboxine to other employees also including clients. The actions of this employee who i might add is still employeed, was brought fourth to two higher ups and nothing was done besides damage controll and a puff piece editorial in the press about this individual months after the fact.It was later confirmed that this was reported to John Brooks and his take home wasnt correct. And here is a better one i think many should look up this law, While the ACRM is a homeless shelter last time i check it was quite illegal to give a printout of all clients who reside there and give this printout to local authorities so names could be ran and later in the evening in the AM the police would come round and apprehend anyone with a warrant staff showing them where they were and exactly where thier bed were per the printout. And this one is insane they have clients work the front desk to do tickets for the meals, it goes a little like this they walk up give thier social security number and the client/resident punches it in and what shows up is the person who is connected to the social and in various cases a brief medial history such as HIV, Etc which clearly violates the HIPA law that is privy to employees only. The list is in depth and i could go one for paragraphs and just a few other issues the building is ran like a Demilitarized Zone, its ridden and laced with bed bugs, there have been personal attacks on Staff with box cutters with damage, and a elderly man was pronounced dead after a week upon being assulted in front of the establishment for his medication by another resident circa (2010).But to sum up the Atlantic City Rescue Mission and various employees some former & some current, but not all employees. Simply disregard clients or conditions as long as the grants and write offs are coming in.I have first hand eyewitnessed the utterly degrading, bigotry and lack of compassion towards clientele its a well oil machine and before i end on a final note i please contest anyone client or employee to prove the facts i presented wrong so i may prove these actions true and far from liable or slander. For being a Christian based organization i wish they would follow what they preach and not decieve by lies, passing the buck or putting liability on others for thier own unethical, immoral & illegal nature.Just remember whats done in the dark eventually comes to the light.

ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. My boyfriend and I were in there yesterday so he could pick up a pair of shoes. In absolutely NO way were we staying there. The staff has a way of treating people who are already doing bad even worse. Like men are scum of the earth or something. Do NOT judge a person by their appearance! You know NOTHING. AND tell me where it says in the BIBLE that there is NO fraternizing with the opposite sex and that men are BAD for women?! I mean you are trying to lead people in a biblical way. How about use the principle behind the Bible then and not bend the rules in your favor.l to keep men and women away from each other when its obvious that they are together, AND for the record- NOT even checked in. I feel bad for a married couple down on their luck that has to go there. For crying out loud, they are husband and wife. Not some bottom feeders. And for sure, NOWHERE in the Bible are husband and wife SEPARATED to bend to your standards. In fact, when they are married they become ONE!

They didnt save us a plate nor they didnt let me shower after work. We work in a clam factory. They need to shut this place down. Im going to the right people to make that happen. The lady Donna shouldnt be working there. We are actually trying to do something with our lives. Its hard being homeless but yet they talk to me like im crazy when im the one actually working!! Im going to report the abuse they show and put out to people. Smdh. Yeah its on.
