Ive been going here for a couple years and love it. Really professional, knowledgeable and experienced group working there. Very relaxing environment. I go for acupuncture treatments and have been treated by three different practitioners there. They are all very good at what they do.

Went here to treat a fairly severely torn muscle. About ten treatments with JulieAnn and the problem was resolved. Much preferable and cheaper than the surgery a friend of mine had for the same problem. Also just a very peaceful and nourishing environment. I usually go early to sit, sip tea, and prepare for my treatment. Through casual conversation I was prescribed some herbs that help me with trouble sleeping as well.

This place is amazing! I have been struggling with a shoulder sprain and frozen shoulder for several months. I have barely been able to move my left arm to handle everyday tasks, and have been in sometimes intense pain, which stinks, because, well, pain stinks AND I am left-handed. Yesterday was my second appointment with David to work on this issue and I was finally able to use my left arm to shampoo my hair, for the first time in months! I am extremely excited about being able to take care of my hair again!. 😃I have enjoyed “acupuncture” for over 15 years,for several issues, but did not know anything about Chinese Medicine until I had the pleasure of meeting Tony. He is an incredibly skilled practitioner as well, and I am grateful to him for helping me with many things, and also because without him, I never would have found this place. I never thought I would use acupuncture therapy. But after 2 1/2 years of sciatic pain with nothing helping, and multiple suggestions to try acupuncture, I finally did. I just wish I would’ve done it a long time ago. I just did my 3rd treatment and I’m not 100% better yet, but I feel the best I have in the last few years. The doctors and staff are wonderful and knowledgeable and actually want to see you get better. I am telling everyone about this place! Love it

Arm pain GONE, QUIT SMOKING - ACHIEVED - I have no idea how they got one bad review as I am so darn cynical and really truly could not believe how on ALL levels they were just so wonderful and professional. Chinese Medicine is a very different approach from Western medicine that involves a more holistic systemic approach. I am a licensed acupuncturist, and have seen at least a dozen acupuncturists, some really good and some really bad, over twenty years. Andrew and Julie Ann are easily among the best! I have gotten powerful and lasting results from their treatments. Their knowledge of herbs is excellent, their knowledge of acupuncture is exceptional. They are both friendly and easy to get along with. If you want a flowery, ethereal treatment with candles and incense, where the practitioner coos over you and you dont hardly feel the needle, this may not be the place for you. I passed the building when I moved here two years ago and was not interested for whatever reason. Then I met a lovely woman who was in a bad way whose partner had recently introduced her to Andrew Nugent-Head. I saw her six months later and could not believe it! She was back working as a landscaper and beaming with vitality. I read up on the clinic and spoke to others who assured me that I was correct in feeling that Asheville is indeed blessed to have Andrew and his wife JulieAnn and David Trevino as practitioners.Okay so I am closer to 70 than any other number and I have tried it all. Be forewarned, this is not relaxing barely notice the needles going in acupuncture! This is come in with bursitis in the hip, suffer a few excruciating seconds and pain in hip gone, gone, gone! This is years of suffering from restless leg syndrome gone. This is whiplash cemented neck moving again. Okay Okay you get it. It hurts! But so does the years of suffering with it.This is a phenomenal place that I am making my primary care center.

I have been to several acupuncturists over the years looking for relief of various symptoms I have had for years. Quite frankly these symptoms were debilitating in many ways and although some were temporarily relieved through various efforts none had addressed all of the symptoms as one. I was referred to Julie Ann by a respected friend and I had hopes that a few more symptoms would be addressed but my experience was so much more than what I had expected. When I sat down with Julie Ann to discuss what was going on, she asked very specific, directed questions which was what I had experienced in the past with other providers but the end treatment quite literally changed my life. She did some body work and acupuncture then prescribed herbal supplements for me to take each day. She said that what I had been experiencing was very treatable and seemed to completely understand what I was going through. She took into account my entire well being and treated accordingly. I have had good experiences in the past (as I mentioned) with other providers but my experience with the Alternative Clinic and Julie Ann have been outstanding to say the least. Exceptional. I found out about the Alternative Clinic through acquaintances who are licensed and practicing Chinese Medicine. They spoke highly of JulieAnn and Andrew saying, We consult them when nothing else works for our patients, or when we need treatment for ourselves. My subsequent experience at the clinic did indeed reflect this high degree of praise. In comparison to various other practitioners of Chinese medicine that Ive visited, I was deeply impressed by the level of professionalism and expertise exhibited at the Alternative Clinic. Best of all, I went there for help with stubborn and longstanding gut issues related to gluten intolerance, having tried many avenues with little success. The herbal formula that JulieAnn prescribed produced positive changes in very little time. She listened carefully and with great depth to my complaints, then devised a formula that supports my constitution. I will continue to visit the Alternative Clinic and recommend it to others.

Save your time and money and dont risk your health with these people. They are difficult to get a hold of, irresponsible and lack compassion and empathy - not ideal qualities for healers. They over sell their abilities greatly.I was prescribed an herbal tea that was prepared by JulieAnn for a minor but pesky problem I was having. After taking the tea I developed horrific hives from my neck down. I tried desperately to get a hold of the office - called, left voicemails, emailed. I drove 45 minutes to the office to find they were closed for the day. I was sure I would receive a call ASAP the following day when they were back in the office. I did not. The next day late in the afternoon I finally got a hold of Beth the receptionist and asked to speak with JulieAnn but she would not take the time to talk with me or call me back between patients. I spoke with her husband who was not much help. He told me that without seeing me they could not offer any advice. I was told to do nothing and was not able to get an appointment for 4 DAYS! I was in tears and complete agony with these hives. Fortunately my husband was able to take care of our toddler while I was incapacitated. I havent taken as much as a Tylenol in years but these hives were so bad I had to take Benadryl several nights to get any sleep. When I finally saw JulieAnn and told her how awful I was feeling her curt response was that I should have gone to the ER. Then she proceeds to tell me during the appointment that it was not the tea that caused the reaction but stress.I wish I could stop here but sadly several weeks later my toddler fell ill with croup. After staying up the entire night watching him breathe to make sure he didnt stop I tried to schedule an appointment. Even after my bad experience I wanted her help because her baby was ill the pneumonia and she treated him naturally. Having this experience I was sure she could help my son. I called and could not speak with the doctors.. If they could have just taken a moment to speak with me I could have had my questions answered in 1 call and just a couple minutes instead of 6 calls back and forth with Beth. After being assured that my son would see improvement within an hour I get a last minute appointment and make the 45 min drive to the office. My appointment was only 30 min long and after rushing to get there I am still 15 min late. When I arrive Andrew, the doctor, disappears to the back. Being that I am all ready late I was annoyed. When he comes back to the front I am eager to get back and get treatment for my son. He tells me, Well youre late and now we only have ten minutes. (We had 15 minutes and I was willing to pay full price for just these 15 minutes of help.) I have another patient coming in and then we close. You can reschedule for tomorrow morning. If you are unfamiliar with croup in toddlers, it is a terrible cough with inflammation in the upper airways which makes breathing difficult and it is worse at night. The steroid that he was prescribed takes six hours to kick in. This was part of all my questioning before I made the appointment with the Alternative Clinic. If I chose to make the appointment with them I would not be able to give my son the steroids in time for them to work before he got really bad at night. I would hope that if Andrew was going to treat my son for this illness he would know the characteristics like it is worse at night. Assuming he did know and considering how awful my son looked and sounded and how upset I was, you would think a person would have some compassion. You would think that since it was the end of the day, they know how far I drive to get to them and I have spent hundreds of dollars with them, you would think they could find a way to help me. I broke down in tears and carried my sick son out. I dropped everything, drove 45 minutes, woke up my sleeping, sick child, took him out in the cold and brought him in just to get the most insincere sorry and be turned away. I am appalled and disgusted at the way my son and I have been treated my these people.

This is a good place. At this place people looking in the root of your problems.
