I was mainly handled with care while awake to get me prepared for a cervical cone biopsy on the 7th. I was given anti anxiety medication because I was visibly terrified. For some reason the IV they tried to put in me hurt really badly and the nurse said that the catheter was bent. A different nurse tried again in another area and it hurt badly again, but I tried as best as I could to just allow it so I could get it over with. When asked what procedure I was having I answered, A LEEP. The nurse looked a little puzzled. Then someone asked if I was getting a biopsy done and I said I didnt know, but I knew I was getting a LEEP done. It turns out that they were doing a cold knife cervical cone biopsy as I found out through My Chart. I dont recall being told that. I thought it was still a LEEP being done, but I think theyre essentially the same thing, so I wasnt worried. No one corrected me on it, I just picked up on what was going to be done through the questions they were asking me. Also, when asked if I had any teeth missing or loose, one nurse phrased it, Which ones are missing or loose? While another asked, Are there any missing or loose? I found the phrasing of the first one to be extremely rude, as if its assumed I have bad teeth because they arent straight or maybe because Im at JPS, or both...After the procedure I was shaking badly. My teeth chattered quite violently, but they were able to take care of that with a medication. I was told Id be given a sanitary pad but they didnt give me one. When I went to put on my clothes there was one underneath me, but good thing I prepared and brought my own for the ride home. They also lost my mask. Im so glad I wore a standard medical one that day instead of my favorite one I got off Amazon that wasnt cheap. When I got home I noticed a spot under my tongue was very sore, my throat was a bit sore and I also have an area rubbed raw thats kind of an open sore on my right buttock area. I dont know how in the world it got there, but it was painful and bothersome for several days (slowly healing). It really disturbs me to wonder how it got there. I must have been propped open in a bad way (I will be asking about it at my follow up appointment in two weeks). Everyone was kind when we interacted and Im grateful to not be in pain in the area where they operated, as I expected and feared with dread.Overall, the care was just okay. It wasnt a horrible experience, but it certainly wasnt the best and was still pretty stressful.
