We were referred to Hurley Pediatric Specialists and Dr. Chen after my son fractured his leg. Our pediatrician and orthopedic doctor wanted to be sure there was not an underlying endocrin issue that would cause his bone to break. We saw Dr. Chen on 1/17/19 for our initial appointment. Dr. Chen told our six year old son at least four different times that he is overweight and he needs to stop snacking. Body shaming a six year old, I couldnt believe it. Dr. Chen never once asked us what/how much does my son eat. He never asked how often does our son snack and never asked what does he snack on. Dr. Chen ordered bloodwork. We took our son directly to the lab to have his blood drawn. We have yet to hear back from Dr. Chen as to the results of my sons bloodwork. I called the office and they received the lab results on 1/18/18. I called last week on Monday (2/4), Tuesday (2/5) and Thursday (2/7). I called again today (2/11) and left another message. It has been almost a month. I cannot believe that this is best practice or even allowed to go on. I got the excuse that he is back and forth between Hurley and U of M, unacceptable. A month? What if there is an issue that we need to address? I have had to cancel two follow up orthopedic appointments because we dont have results from endocrinology to discuss. I am not sure what it will take to get a call back but we will never return to Hurley. We will never recommend Dr. Chen or this clinic to anyone.
