Dr Hiatt is excellent. He listens to your concerns and is really kind and compassionate. I have dealt with several doctors in the past and I can genuinely tell you that Dr Hiatt is one of the best. I highly recommend him!

Review №2

I have chronic health conditions and see doctors regularly as a result. I thus come into contact with multiple doctors and nurses regularly, from myriad specialties -- mostly at the University of Michigan these days, but all over the Midwest. Honestly, all my experiences at UM have been wonderful, until Dr. Hiatt. I think Dr. Hiatt exemplifies whats wrong with the medical profession - he was dismissive, did not listen well, and didnt seem to take my questions seriously. I voiced concern and asked flat out if he felt my symptoms were normal, he stated, yes -- so I felt he was biased toward believing that nothing was wrong, and hoped to work backwards from his conclusion. I quietly parted ways and scheduled an appointment with another gastroenterologist -- I walked into the room and less than 20 minutes later, the new doctor had listened to my symptoms, asked questions, checked test results, and prescribed medicine to treat my infection -- I feel so much relief. This second part of my review doesnt have anything to do with the office visit, but I think is indicative of how Dr. Hiatt chooses to interact with patients and thus practice medicine. After calling the nurse to have my info faxed to the new doctor, I also mentioned some of my concerns regarding the visit. She passed that message along and I received a phone call shortly after that Dr. Hiatt wanted to discuss my concerns. After reading the previous google+ review, I see this is a pattern of behavior -- Im not sure how many other patients who had concerns about their visit were strong-armed into feeling their concerns werent valid and thus, never spoke out. I would recommend that Dr. Hiatt take less time feeling entitled to additional justification from patients he did not treat, and more time learning to incorporate constructive criticism and becoming a better doctor.

Update: I wish I could do zero stars but I received a call from Dr. Tadd Hiatt after he read my review. I felt it very unprofessional for him to call and explain that “he couldn’t sleep all night due to my review” and that I hurt his feelings because he thought he really tried and he still thinks it’s inappropriate to write a referral because he doesn’t agree I need to be there. So he literally called to put salt on the wound because I disturbed his slumber for one night. Well sadly Dr. Tadd Hiatt I never sleep due to this undiagnosed painful disease that you refuse to allow me the privilege to investigate through the University of Michigan health system. That system is reserved for the upper class and those lower class who will just shut up and take their pills and don’t challenge the status quo.I have been very sick with an inability to swallow for a year. This was shortly after having a baby and I also experience severe intense pain that wraps around my diaphragm area that’s undiagnosed. The last year I have been searching for answer with so many tests and very unpleasant tests at that. I took many drugs that caused horrible reactions including my tongue spasming and sticking to the roof of my mouth at a Christmas party and I had to leave it was so bad. I have lost 80lbs, my hairs fallen out, pains all over, urinary incontinence, severe depression and anxiety, numbing sensations in the tips of my fingers and moving along my spine and so much more. I have a history of bowel issues so I assumed I should start there. Unfortunately after a year I’m realizing I need to see someone else like neurology and a rheumatologist because it sounds neurological. Dr. Hiatt refused to offer me any referrals because he doesn’t believe I need to be seen by someone else but he refuses to help me because I won’t take Prilosec (which I took for 10 years to no avail). He called me a “quack” because I was using aloe Vera to help my ulcer. After he called me a name and made me cry he chased me down the hall to apologize and say he would help me. Since he can’t find my issues he is using his power to prevent me from seeing anyone at university of Michigan. Why is he giving me such a hard time? I challenged him and told him he wasn’t putting my health before his pride so I’m being punished. Guess the truth hurts. So I highly recommend you find another GI doctor if you want any say in your care. If you want a doctor to dictate your every move and to just cover up your symptoms with drugs he’s your guy! He’s the epitome of a bought off doctor. Very sad because we need compassion back in medicine.Thank you and God bless,Kimberly McEachin
