I have brought my big fur baby here for the last 2 years. I have always been really happy with the care my big pup has gotten. She isnt the easiest dog for strangers to handle but they have always treated her with love and understanding. This morning my girl had somewhat urgent issue and they were able to fit her in right away and got her taken care of. I could keep going but I think I have expressed that I have been very happy with State Road Animal Hospital and would definitely recommend them.

My mom had a cat that had been under their care since he was a kitten. He had been acting weird and so she took him in, they gave him antibiotics and sent him home. A few months later he kept puking and they said he had acid reflux. Wouldnt run other tests or anything. He kept getting worse and they continued to act like nothing is wrong with him, had her changing his food and saying its fine. He was losing so much weight that he looked unhealthy.We finally got another opinion and they found lymphoma in his intestines, which was so progressive by the time it was found that he wouldnt have even been saved by chemo. So he lost his battle last week and we believe if you would have cared a little bit more he would have been able to be saved. I would not recommend anyone bringing their pet here. They only worry about the money you spend to get them a paycheck.

While the veterinarian we worked with was wonderful, I believe it was Dr. Finn, the front desk staff could genuinely use some improvement. Cost of services were high as well. We have chosen to take our pet to a different vet and have no plans on returning.

Unable to be seen. Not taking new patients. I was very dissapointed

8.22.21 - I had an appt scheduled at 11:30 on 8/9/21 to have my dog’s stitches removed by a tech. Their staff chose the appt date & time that would work well for them, and I accepted. I arrived 3 minutes early & sent the arrival text. After 20 minutes of zero response or acknowledgement, I called on the phone which went into voice mail. I left a voice message. Still no response or acknowledgement. I sat in the parking lot for a total of 35 minutes (from 11:27 til 12:02). No one ever responded or even acknowledged me. I was taking time away from work to attend this appt and had no more time to sit there. I had to leave. As I was driving home (to Saginaw, a 35-min drive each way) I received a text that said, Sorry. We did not expect to run behind today. HOW DOES THAT HELP ME AND MY DOG? Most of us do not EXPECT to run behind, but it can understandably happen. Common sense & common courtesy tells us that we simply need to alert the other party when we are running behind. A simple text or call to say, Please be advised we are running ___ minutes late. Please plan accordingly. Of course they may have had an emergency case, which would of course take priority over non-emergency appts. The receptionist/cust service associate does not perform surgery and should alert her paying customers of such circumstances & delays. If I had been running late to the appt, I would have called to let them know. Not just ignore their texts & calls and show up an hour late. This resulted in more than 1.5 hours of lost work pay, burned gas, 52 miles of wear & tear on my car, wasted over 1.5 hours of my life, caused stress to me and my dog, AND my dog still needs his stitches removed! If you are wondering why I dont make an evening or weekend appt, as opposed to leaving work during the week, its because they dont have evening or weekend options. This was not the 1st or even 2nd incident of carelessness & unacceptable service provided by State Road. I understand they are likely short-handed, as many business places are, including my own. The few employees they have are likely working very hard during this staffing shortage. Just like me at my job. But mgmt/ownership need to find a solution to the staffing shortage and a solution to deliver better service. The actual doctors seem knowledgeable and very competent. But customer service is sorely lacking. After this incident, I received a link to a survey from State Road. I provided this feedback to them in that survey. After 2 weeks Ive still received no response whatsoever.8.25.21 – In response to the owner’s comments below: She indicates they are sorry I FEEL as though my time was wasted. It is not a feeling, it is a fact. Money was wasted as well. It cost me both time & money to show up to my scheduled appt. What did I receive in return for my time & money? Nothing. It was in fact wasted. I did receive an apology, which was the text I already mentioned above. That text was sent to me after I had been ignored for so long that I was half way back to my house. No one had even acknowledged my existence the entire time I sat in their parking lot. I did not know if they were even receiving my texts or calls, or if they even knew that I was there. On my way home I received the text that said, “So sorry. We did not expect to run behind today”. That was the apology. Yes, that text also said, “Would you like to re-schedule?” I did not respond back to that question because I did not want to re-schedule. It did not sound appealing to subject myself to that horrific experience again. And am I supposed to be appreciative that they would allow me the honor of re-scheduling an appt that THEY missed and caused me grief? I was already there at my scheduled appt time, so why would I WANT to re-schedule? The owner’s comments below go on to say “If youd like to help us resolve your concerns, wed be more than happy to do so”. So I will reach out to them by phone to help them resolve my concerns. A sincere verbal apology, in addition to a commitment of doing things better & different would be a starting point.

State road has taken care of my pets since I moved to Gratiot County 5 years ago. They recently helped with the cremation of my dog. Great vet.

Dr. Waugh always takes the time to thoroughly care for my pets like they are her own. She never makes you feel like you are taking up too much of her time, but always makes sure that she answers your questions. If your beloved pet needs to stay in the hospital for the day, she carefully oversees their treatment at each step of the way. I knew the quality of her care for many years before she had the opportunity to bring her skills to State Road, and I have the utmost respect for her as a veterinarian. Having been to State Road, I can see that Dr. Waugh is continuing her standard of excellence. She is very compassionate and works hard to ensure that a patients well-being always comes first; it makes me sick to see the people on here who have dared to insinuate that she cares about the money--it is the furthest thing from the truth. Thank you, Dr. Waugh, for being the intelligent, warmhearted veterinarian that you are. Major, Dublin, Layla, and I thank you!

When it was time to say goodbye to my senior dog, the entire staff of State Road Animal Hospital showed my family and me nothing but compassion, kindness, and gentleness. It was clear to me that even though its something they experience on a regular basis, it still emotionally affects the staff when a family has to say goodbye to a beloved companion. There was no clinical coldness to what was being done, and despite how close we were to closing time we were given all the time we needed at each step along the way to say our goodbyes.

Other than the fact they almost did surgery and my dog unnecessarily years ago they would rather make you come in during this virus outbreak... And expose you and other people.... than call your regular vet and sell you flea and tick medicine.... iM transitioning up north my vet is up there need to stay here to help someone out but yet even though I have a valid script my dogs are seen regularly although my vet is now up north..... they still want you to make an appointment and expose you to more risk.... Thats very professional

Quick to respond to a minor emergency with the new puppy. New customer. Used to use Dr Creswell in Ithaca prior to his retirement. Closer to home, saves about 20 miles driving per visit. Nice folks. Education and experience of staff is on their website site.

Not impressed. I have been going to this place for a year after switching from St Johns vet clinic. The prices are way too high and the level of care is questionable. I had bloodwork done on my dog who hasn’t been well— days ago and haven’t heard a word back. More often than not the receptionist is short and rude, like she can’t be bothered if you ask a question. I’m not getting any answers as to what is wrong with my dog. Just keep getting big bills. I think they are more concerned with making money than the welfare of the the animals.

Dr Waugh is a fantastic veterinarian. Very knowledgeable and caring towards all animals. She treats her clients pets as if they were her own.The staff is friendly, prices are reasonable, and open 7 days a week. Considering they also offer urgent care for emergencies, this animal hospital offers everything I need to care for my animals.

Absolutely amazing staff, vet and ultrasound specialist. We came here for a 2nd opinion after another vet clinic DR. POLS was sure our dog had a tumor and not long to live. After all the tests here it showed us our dog is completely healthy and tumor free. Glad we came here definitely a great atmosphere and great staff

Only take your pet if no serious concern. My beloved dog was ignored when needed to be referred immediately. Dr didnt communicate serious nature to me,if she even appreciated the serious condition. Wanted to promote theLaser hubby instead. My dog died because of inattention laser

My cat was very calm and happy when I took him to this vet. He used to get very anxious at his old vet, but not this one. The staff was friendly and answered all my questions. We will be returning to this vet in the future :)

EDIT: Dr. Waugh contacted me and apologized for the situation that we experienced at State Road and mentioned that she would speak with her front desk staff to try and prevent these types of situations from happening in the future. It really spoke volumes of her character and her passion for wanting to run a solid business. It’s good to know that someone there cares about customer service enough to reach out and try and remedy bad experiences. We will give them another chance, as they truly are the best doctors in the area.they seem like they are too small to handle the amount of clients they have. Horrible customer service and long wait times. The front desk staff are rude and not accommodating. My dog had an ear infection and I was told it would be 5 days before I could get in, but could bring her in on the weekend for an emergency fee. Another time, my dog needed her anal glands surpressed and was in pain. I was already there with my other dog and asked if they could empty them real quick. Was told no (very rudely) and was referred to someone else because they were “short staffed”. If they’re going to refer people to other parties for services, they must not care. Do yourself a favor and find somewhere else that values their customers

I cant explain how amazing this place is! They were so kind, understanding, helpful and thoughtful. Such a hard decision to put a pet, a family member down, but they made it so much easier.

Great place. I trust them enough to take care of my goldens. Staff is super nice and happy. I love how they explain everything and I never feel rushed. Only thing I wish is that you could make payments instead of paying full after the visit.

This place is great. We have five dogs that we take regularly. The staff is friendly and Dr.s are Great. We found the prices are very reasonable as well and they offer weekend emergencies too. Sure glad we found this Place.

It is March, I had an appointment for April 23 to have my dog spayed microchipped and all her shots. She is due on April 17th for her heartworm check, which they said they would do at the same time. I recently ordered all her flea and heartworm medicine for the year online so that company had to call and check on her prescription with them. They denied it, because she was due in 3 weeks for a heartworm check. I called and asked for a special exception because they can see she was clearly scheduled for an appointment, coming in and it would save me 50 percent ordering a year supply. I understand they want to make sure the dog is taken care of, but its clear my dog is. They are not under the same requirements as a family Dr, they could have approved this and choose not to. Bad business just trying to make more money. I will give them the credit that they have always took great care of my dogs, just not credit for trying to make more money off me.

Awesome care, great staff, on the spot diagnosis, they try to give you low cost options instead of giving you no choices. We travel 45 minutes for the care of all 3 of our dogs. Highly recommend you wont regret it.

Had to wait for additional time because they only had one back in the office and there was a kitty emergency so I had to wait an additional 45 minutes for appointment also receptionist was rude at checkout would not come back to them or recommend them. I havent liked them since Dr. Armstrong left. I never see the same vet twice. The prices have steadily risen and they sometimes vary. They have the technology but it will cost you.

Very nice veterinarian hospital. We went here before the new owners and were happy but was very hesitant about going back after reading all the reviews on the new owners. Well after surgery on my dog I was happy with the price they charged me because they quoted me a low and high price and it was the lower price even after they ended up keeping her overnight. So my dog is a patient of This vet. She is extremely sick and we went to them for help , mind you they have seen her on numerous occasions and I’ve spent a fortune of money here!! But now that my baby girl is sick and I mean life threatening sick , they told me they just don’t have time to see her and that we should go somewhere else !!!!! So if you want a vets office that will always be there for your animal in time of dire need DO NOT USE THIS VET !!!!!!

I have had nothing but excellent experiences with the doctors and staff at State Road Animal Hospital. My elderly cat was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and CKD. The doctor was very helpful while explaining each of his test results, the reason for follow up monitoring, and his medication. The tech was great, too. My cat used to be a “caution cat” and would need sedation just to have his temperature taken. But he was calm throughout his visit at SRAH.

If I could rate this place a negative 10 I would! I dont know where to begin. I have a new puppy and they wouldnt even fill out his vaccination records. The lady at the front desk super rude about it and says this is the world of the computers! Omg! Not true and so rude. I just cant believe it. Were in the process of the puppies series so Ill finish with the last one, maybe. But I will not go here again or take my other dog there. They dont know their head from a hole in the ground and they are all rude, especially the woman vet. The wait is ridiculously stupid. Been there 3 times and each time about an hour and 1/2. They for sure only care about money at this vet 💯

This is the worst vet office Ive ever been to. Dont be fooled by the good comments because ownership changed recently. The only thing they care about it the money. I cant even call to ask a quick question about my animals. They make me take them in for 60 dollars and the results say they are just fine. They dont actually care about the wellbeing of your furry friends. We have spent so much money with them and nothing shows for it. They cant even make a simple diagnoses. They just tell you to keep ordering blood work for $200 and they will see what happens. We had to do that 3 times and still no answers.

The doctors know what they’re doing but the front desk are rude. Everytime we come here it’s an hour plus wait time to even get in a room and an hour plus wait in the room. Don’t come here if you have 3 hours to kill in your day.

I have been going here for 20+ years. Called today to make an appointment for my fur baby. They told me they didnt have any open appointments and I would have to bring her in this weekend to Urgent care. The receptionist Chelsea was rude and obviously dont care. Its all about money to them. I told her I guess Ill have to find a new vet. She said OK, obviously they dont care about their long term clients. Im very saddened by this.

I appreciate the caring, friendly staff and the way they take care of my pets.They are sensitive not only to the needs of my pets but to my feelings as well. Animals are their first priority, Id recommend them to anyone with any kind of pet 😊

Cant stand anything about this place , the staff is not friendly, they tell you one thing and its another when you get in and actually pay ..so pricey and very uptight atmosphere. I live 15 mins away and will be taking my cat an hour way so she and I will get treated with care .

Wonderful experience ...first time here ..and came on the weekend with a sick kitty..they got her right in and took great care of her...all the staff and Doctor Are amazing !! Thank u Animal hospital !!

I can’t see the whole place treats animals unfairly. But the young man that helped me with my dog bad day assisted with the death of my dog. I do believe that. He even followed me out after the fact handed me the box And stated if I didn’t known this would’ve happened I would’ve given him the shot. $196 later I still have no answers and now I have no Pat and very angry and it just seems like they don’t care

Helpful, however change over in Drs is annoying and often leads to issues with long term animal issues.

They are awesome my cat was in alot of pain with intestinal blockage and they really took care of him,and know Im a client they will see him no matter what.my other vet in mt.pleasant wouldnt even see my cat all because it was friday just before 5:00pm it was going to cost me over $100.00 for them to see him . And Im already a client!@##*& yah go figure that!?.so i highly recommend state road veterinary clinic alma,mi.

I was 19 took my dog there afther giving birth. She had green junk coming out of her and because she was in the breed that considered violent they said oh that normal. Went home and she die that night. Refused to pay them because my dog died and they took m to court anyways. Years later thank to good ole Internet and having another dog have a puppy I now know it not was not normal. Wouldnt recommend them to save my worst enemies animal.

They were very helpful in saving our blocked cat!! He wont be 2 until late July, and Im so glad I get to have him longer!!

My cat was in bad shape health wise, we called a vet who specializes in cats and told me it was an emergency and he needed to be seen. So We made an appointment here told them what was going on and they told us that they would put us in the emergency slot and to come in. Once we arrived we sat in the waiting room for 30mins before I had to ask why we have not been seen yet. They told us we are a fit in and will be seen when possible and there was nothing they could do. Some emergency service thy have. Needless to say we will not be going back!

UPDATE: I forgot to come back in and update my review. I took Kenobi into this office because he was constantly licking his legs. Due to the fact he had 12 screws in, I inquired about getting radiographs done of his legs. The first vet tech we saw say Oh no! He doesnt need those! Its just a habit and told me to put socks on him (which they fitted) and possibly put some bitter spray on it so he wouldnt lick. A few weeks go by, and during play, we notice he was limping pretty bad (and was licking again). We took him back to the vet (about two days later) and saw a different vet tech- she suggested x-rays right away. The vet tech found that his screws had pulled out (they were not the right length) and the plates had pulled away from the bone just far enough that there was infection between them. Several trips to MSU and $3000 later, his plates are removed and hes better. But I really, really feel if the radiographs were done when I suggested the first time, Nobi would not have had such a bad infection and had to be on antibiotics so long after his surgery.----My dog, Kenobi, was extremely abused as a puppy- he was drug behind a car and had to have two rods and over twelve screws put in his front legs. This makes him extremely scared of the vets office. It was a struggle getting him in through the doors, let alone getting him close enough to the doctor and her assistant. The doctor and her assistant actually sat on the floor for about ten minutes until Kenobi felt comfortable enough to go over and sniff them on his own free will. This location does not overcharge and are extremely knowledgeable about dogs. As long as Ilive locally, I will not go anywhere else!
