We could not be happier with our experience with Saul at the Old Town School for Dogs. Archie, our 11 month golden retriever, is such a great dog, sweet, fun, well behaved and that is because of Saul. He really is a dog whisperer! I now wish we had invested in our other dogs by training them at OTSFD. We have already signed up our second dog, an 8 year old Coton for some time with Saul. I believe in Saul’s magic!

We took our Wheaten Terrier Chewie to see Saúl, and he took Chewie from out of control jumping on strangers to an absolute model puppy in about two hours! Were far from done, obviously, but Saúl is amazing about training the owners in addition to the dog! Id give him ten out of five stars if I could!

We took our puppy to Olde Towne School for Dogs for basic (9 mos old) and off leash (15 mos old) trainings. We were fortunate to get Saul as a trainer. Saul is cheerful, kind and professional to deal with. Our Daisy adored him and was always excited to see him! Her behavior dramatically changed under his guidance. She learned self control and really enjoyed “working” on her walks. Not only did Saul train Daisy, but he taught us how to properly communicate with her. Another trainer we met with before Saul feared that her energetic nature would make her somewhat untrainable. However, after training with Saul, we can take her anywhere knowing she will behave beyond our expectations. It’s all thanks to Saul, our dog whisperer!!

We are repeat clients and will refer everyone we know to have their dogs trained at OTSFD – especially by Saul Cardona Luciano. Saul has trained both of our dogs. Our first dog, Josey, is described by Saul as an exceptional (and even magical) dog, but we know he is responsible for making her that way. Our second dog, Cooper, is a high-needs rescue dog that needs a lot of work, and not only did Saul manage to get him trained wonderfully, he is even going above and beyond to make sure that he will be ready for off-leash training later down the road – rearranging his personal life to great lengths! Saul does not only train dogs for a job – he truly enjoys and invests himself completely into his clients (both canine and human alike). There are no written words to describe how exceptional Saul is and OTSFD is very fortunate to have him represent their company.

Well established dog school that has trained two golden retrievers and two labradors for our family over the years. We have always been pleased with the results. It has expanded since our first puppy training and has energetic young trainers who get to know you and your pet. One on one lessons are available. Kyle the manager and his staff are very experienced at addressing behavioral issues with many breeds and sizes. The store has lots of things for your pet such as food, toys, treats, collars, ....Conveniently located in Olde Town it has intimacy and charm. Picture of a puppy and his owner on the way to the school.

Been going to Olde Town School for Dogs for years for pet products and grooming. They have a wonderful staff. My dogs love everyone there because they are so kind to them. When I lost my little black and white spaniel I received a card from them that everyone on staff had signed with a note from each staff member about my dog. I will never forget their thoughtfulness in such a difficult time.

I struggled with deciding to give Olde Towne School for Dogs a five, four or three.I can say my puppy improved in areas and the customer service was great but I can’t say it was worth spending over $2500 to get him where he is by the end.My puppy is a COVID puppy and he is full of energy to say the least. I identified this early on and sought help immediately but I do think I could have done better research. I signed my puppy up for the combo that is the “Puppy Head Start and Day School.” I chose this option knowing my work schedule, even during COVID, and understanding my puppy would not get the repetitive training he needed through the early stages of his life from me alone. However, I regret not going in prepared with the right questions.I basically paid a very heavy sum for my dog to be leash trained and to be introduced to the “place” command. The “place” command is when they identify an area in which you say “place” and your dog will go to that location and cannot move until you say so.While I can admit my puppy is so much easier to walk, I struggle with accepting I payed thousands of dollars for 30 minute session and nothing else.To clarify, after doing the math of what I was charged I dropped just over $55 dollars for per 30 minute sessions for 36 sessions for my dog’s day school. My disappointment is you leave your dog there for 8 plus hours a day and the equipment needed to train the dog is not included on the heavy sum. In the end, I ended up spending another $500 to get the items he needed to train and to get him groomed due to a “misunderstanding.”Go into this understanding if you choose the day school option, you have to pay for the collars needed to train your dog, the different leashes and their food and possibly their treats if the have allergic reactions like my dog. Also understand that despite spending thousands, there is no discount on services in terms of grooming. Also understand you may walk out having to polish your dog more despite what is advertised. My puppy still struggles with long leash walking and the place command, as I was not told how to train him on the place command until his last day.Areas I think that Olde Town School for Dogs could improve in is definitely incentives, but also switching up how they handle day school training and informing pet owners. I was told my dog had been learning the “place” command for the three weeks he had been there but as the owner, I wasn’t practicing this at home bc I wasn’t taught how to and I needed to buy the proper training equipment on my own.Again - I will say this is not the worst training service by any means. But go in there knowing what you’re paying for. For me - my puppy improved but his improvements were not worth $2500 plus.

We had the best experience having our dog trained at Olde Towne School for Dogs. Our trainer was Saul, who is wonderful! There was a set curriculum, but Saul customized the program for our dog’s unique needs (she has a bad leg and can’t sit very easily). They are worth every penny--I can’t believe how quickly my dog picked up the training. They not only trained our dog, but also made sure we understood exactly how we should continue to work with her to get the most out of the training. I was honestly sad when we completed the program because my dog loves Saul so much.

I have been taking my dog to groom at the Olde Towne School for Dogs for at least a year and a half now - perhaps two - and I can say that they are one of the best groomers in the are! My dog is a former feral from the Caribbean and is by no stretch of the imagination an easy dog to groom, requiring a muzzle and a firm, though gentle hand. Everyone on the grooming team takes particular care to acknowledge and gently get to know my dog, who may not always be happy to be groomed, but loves her grooming family! Jesus, Laura, Sara, Julio, Raul, Jose, Yanette, and Yubi are all fantastic at their jobs and will not let you down! I love the haircuts they give my dog, who is so happy to lose some of that coat in the summer months! Thank you, OTSFD!

Love Old Towne School For Dogs. Their trainers are super patient with the dogs, and more importantly, the owners. The stock of toys, food, accessories is great, and their grooming department is awesome. I had some issues with the durability of certain toys, I spoke with them, and they gave me store credit no problem. I love seeing them train dogs around old town. Wonderful group of people, and this will always be my go-to place for all of my dogs needs.

I will be making another review after my puppy goes through the kindergarten. But my review is with customer service itself. I understand that they are suppose to be the best school in Alexandria but they didnt stress to me that the $375.00 I paid for the puppy kindergarten is NON REFUNDABLE. Especially considering its only 3 1 hour classes and I havent used any of the classes. Pet smart down the street gives a puppy class for 6 weeks and is only $119.00. If I knew that I would have went elsewhere. But since these people refuse to refund my money I have no choice but to go through this overpriced class. However for further training I will be avoiding them. PLEASE DO ALL YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE HANDING ANY MONEY TO THESE PEOPLE. THEY WONT GIVE IT BACK ONCE THEY GOT IT.

A total rip off ! They promise the world, they deliver nothing. After 3 weeks and more than $2000 dollars my dog did not change or learn one bit.On top of that, I was never told that they put a prong collar on every dog. I am against that. They put it anyway because they don’t know other way of training. - and won’t get you the money back.Plus, when you point out a bad behavior of your dog, their answer is: “Hmmm interesting, he doesn’t do it here”Pathetic just pathetic. I ll say it again: a total rip off!!

This is dog central in dog friendly Alexandria. For that reason, VISIT this vibrant business which also harbors one of the best pet supply stores in the area. However...Id recommend going elsewhere for grooming. First, their services are in high demand and, therefore, more expensive than other groomers. $95 for sheered cut. +40 for hand clipping. Also, during my one/only visit, I found the owner to be inflexible with addressing my needs as a customer.

I picked Simba from them on 7/25/19. When I arrived @ 6:00 pm I was told the dog had not been serviced after being there all day. I would need to wait an addl hour. I did. When I received the Simba, he did not smell fresh nor was his cut around his bum correct. For the next 30 days I had to clean his bum each time he plopped. I contacted the owner Sandy and she said her groomer had been working on Simba for the last 4 yrs with no issues; however she would make it right. Upon attempting to schedule the next appt I mentioned the previous encounter and I would like to have a conversation with the groomer. She said she would not allow me to pressure her groomer because her groomer only spoke spanish. I am offended and appalled that just merely making sure we are on the same page means pressuring a groomer. Sandy told me she want going to service my dog and I should find another groomer. I have obliged and my very next call was to AMEX to dispute the charge. You will not lie to me nor accuse me of pressuring anyone. Shame on you SANDY!

High end training and pet shop -- I have an Akita. While beautiful, these dogs are known to be fairly hard to handle. Ive had a few dogs in my life, as has my significant other. We adopted the Akita as a puppy and decided early that a well trained dog was a necessity. For puppy classes, we tried both Olde Towne School for Dogs (OTSD) and Petsmart. The comparison Id make here is like going to a high end department store to buy your clothes vs Walmart. Walmart is cheaper, and might be a better value, but the product is just not as good. For a puppy class that might be fine. The puppy classes at OTSD are one-on-one and at Petsmart youll be in a group class. As our Akita became an adolescent/adult, we decided to stay with OTSD because of the one-on-one and the better quality of the instructors. The classes are expensive, but weve been very happy with the results. IMHO, dog training is just as much about training us, the dog owners, as it is about training the dog. From both perspectives, I believe Ive gotten my moneys worth. Kyle is a top-notch instructor.

I highly recommend reconsidering before paying this extensive fee for very basic and (in many cases) harmful classes. When I took my female chocolate labrador to Old Towne School For Dogs, she was barely over six months old. It was our first dog and I was only 15. My family and I knew very little about dog training but we definitely learned our lesson- research research research. In our initial meeting with a trainer, she was put on a chocker and later prong collar. This caused major anxiety in my dog and it becomes extremely apparent that she becomes uncomfortable when putting on a leash on her collar. When I turned 18 I began to work at an undisclosed dog training facility in Arlington, VA who only believe in positive-reinforcement training. After learning about this training program and what else I could do with my dog, I was amazed. I have gone from basic obedience to advanced obedience with CGC and from Agility I to Agility VI. With positive reinforcement training, you are teaching your dog to think for itself and learn to give you the right answer. Dogs always want to please, you just need to wait a second. My dog now has throat issues because of the chocker and prong collar and when she did not attend her last class, Old Towne School For Dogs did not call nor contacted us about a final session. I can tell my dog now loves training and I can thank this wondering dog training facility in Arlington for their help. I now have a strong connection to my dog and our training. At Old Towne, I felt as though after the credit card was swiped, they stopped caring.
