If I could give Cunningham Turch a 10+ star rating I definitely would. The quality of service the CT staff provided for my mom’s funeral was beyond EXCEPTIONAL!! From the planning through the end of the interment service Gary was there every step of the way guiding my family on what needed to be done and walking us through on what was going on. And during my mother’s viewing so many guests complimented us on how nice the facility was, how sweet the memorial tributes were, how beautiful the photo collage video was and so much more. I simply said this is part of the package they offer. This family owned business truly knows and understands how to work with families during such a difficult time of losing a loved one. I would strongly recommend Cunningham Turch…no doubt about that!

They have provided outstanding service during such difficult time. I knew right away that we would go through Cunningham Turch the very first time when I heard Brendas voice on the phone. Her empathy is beyond this earth and comforted us throughout the process. Gary was amazing and patient and just very strong in what he does. It takes a huge courage and patience for the job they do. The entire staff was extremely kind and and welcoming of different religious process we had to follow. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

In our experience with Cunningham Turch Funeral Home, two very different elements stand out: 1) They displayed an attitude of friendly, concerned, cooperative professionalism, and 2) Delight in finding a truly reasonable price for a funeral, indeed the lowest price around, without sacrificing any of what is important to us. C.T. has a committed staff and exceptional facilities and maintains an impressive, state-of-the-art website. I utilized their online pre-planning form and obituary writing tool to make advance decisions before my mother passed. In our case, their lovely facility and many special options for Life Celebrations werent needed except for perfectly adequate care of my mothers remains. I was moved when they beautifully prepared her body knowing just I & my sibs would view her before the closed-casket visitation. Between their excellent care and website features that helped simplify details after Moms death, I felt relieved & supported. They receive 5+ stars from me, and left me 100% satisfied!

I am writing this review in appreciation for all that your staff did to make the passing of my loved one a wonderful experience. First, my family was not local to VA and when our uncle passed we had no one to direct us. My cousin visited two other businesses prior to entering your establishment when she arrived from TN. Your staff (Kyle) was so understanding and although we didnt know what my uncle had available, he began immediately helping her figure out where to start. As I stated the entire staff was professional and the day of the funeral at Pleasant Valley Memorial Park became a memorable moment for all the family members who where able to travel to VA. It was not difficult to write this review.

Kyle went above and beyond our expectations, guiding us with the Grace of God in celebrating my daughter’s life, PFC Julie Shanahan, with the Honor fitting a true Hero; it was the perfect celebration of a life too young to die.Our Angel Kyle is an excellent example of someone who helps make a devastating situation into one that is filled with the highest level of compassionate care; he truly makes you relaxed, calmer and able to deal with the devastating death of a loved one, especially a child and sister. If you have lost your Beloved, then choose Cunningham Turch for their exceptional professionalism and compassionate attention to every detail.

Definitely a FIVE STAR operation. Gary Maxwell runs a top flight organization. Gary, Brenda, Dennis and Kyle manage to be warm and friendly without losing dignity. That’s an achievement in this world of too casual and disrespectful vs snooty and officious. One of the best things they did for us was a last minute change, pulled off with finesse. No extra charge or even a moment’s pause. PLUS, the family having opted to not have a visitation before the funeral, I personally wanted to see my Dad. I thought I’d be in some dimly lighted side room to say goodbye-bye. They asked me to wait a moment and then took me through the doors of the chapel. There was a full blown display of appropriate videos and a beautifully lighted room set up just for me. They spared nothing even for one person. The entrance rotunda is a lovely, the coffee and tea room is very comfortable, and the chapel is a perfectly classic style. No froufrou. Just a dignified room for mourners and friends. I prefer the classic simplicity over trendy fashion decor. Cunningham’s is very comfortable. From the first interview to the last prayer card Cunningham’s is excellent.

My father was buried at Arlington National Cemetery on Tuesday, March 23, 2021. He resided in Naples, FL, and as his only next of kin, I reside in Northern Virginia. Cunningham & Turch Funeral Home coordinated with the funeral home in Naples, FL, to handle all the Arlington arrangements.I was unable to see my father or hold any kind of service due to the pandemic as he died in July 2020. Gary was getting ready to pick up the casket at Reagan National Airport on Friday, March 19th. I called on Thursday, March 18th. I wanted to be able to do something to honor my Dad appropriately. Gary bent over backwards to accommodate my desires, which were far more detailed than what had been planned.Gary and Dennis both exceeded my expectations, and the police motorcycle escort from the funeral home to Arlington National Cemetery was so moving. Cunningham & Turch staff were beyond helpful, kind, attentive, and patient. I cannot recommend them enough, and should I EVER need the services of a Northern Virginia funeral home again, it WILL be Cunningham & Turch Funeral Home.

My brother passed away recently and we called around and found Cunningham Turch. As a long time Alexandrian I have seen this facility for years but never have had occasion to use it or visit. I cannot say enough about their kindness and how they made everything feel special for his family. Our family was so thankful to Cunningham Turch Funeral Home for their personal care they took before, during and after my brothers April funeral. We were initially drawn to CH because they offered a Harley Hurst to transport our brother to Quantico National Cemetery, which was so fitting for Eds robust life style. Kyle was a welcoming friendly face that stepped in right away to help obtain Eds military discharge papers. Kyle came along side many time assuring us to be patient, and it worked out in the end...Phew!!! At Kyles suggestion, we submitted photos of Ed which were incorporated into a beautiful trifold, sign in book, 8 ft poster, a flannel blanket and finally broadcasted on all the chapel walls during the visitation with60-70s music. Those same pictures and music were made available for nominal fee to anyone who wished to have one. they were really wonderful. Dennis was the funeral director the night of the visitation and even stayed an hour past closing as people stayed to reminisce a little longer. What an amazing team of wonderful caring people at Cunningham that were able to make a seemingly sad day seem sorta cool. They know how to make a wonderful memory of a persons life like our brother Eds life be so very valuable for a little bit longer. Thanks a million everyone at Cunningham Turch Funeral Home in Alexandria, VA...Each of you ROCK!!!

I cannot say enough about this funeral home. Our experience started when our beloved one who was experiencing an accelerated decline in health and had barely begun home hospice care. In less than 24 hours of being at home, I was calling funeral homes for arrangements to transport our loved one to another state for burial. I first spoke to Brenda then Gary, both of them were caring and thoughtful. This was a Saturday and Gary was kind enough to help locate a receiving funeral home in the other state, understanding that we may not have much time. As it turned out we lost our family member early the next morning. That’s when Kyle stepped in. Kyle is such a genuine and caring professional that he made a very difficult time for our family a seamless experience. He took the burden off our shoulders and proceeded to organize all parties, provide great guidance, and took care of every detail. What impressed us most about Kyle is that he really cares about the families. From the way he handled the details to fulfilling our wishes, his words and actions were kind and compassionate. Our beloved one was a military member so having a funeral home who understands and has experience with the protocols was very helpful. An A+++++ for the team at Cunningham Turch. Thank you for being there for our family.

I read a lot of reviews but dont generally write them. I definitely didnt expect to be writing a review for a funeral. Something I didnt want to do, but had to have and with which I had only negative prior experience. My husband died unexpectedly. Because of prior loss in his family, I generally knew what he would prefer but had no specific guidance. From the moment I talked with Gary at Cunningham Turch, he connected his personal experiences with mine, offered suggestions for the service that resonated with my family and made it clear he was listening when I talked about my husband and the life he lived. In the months since the service, so many attendees have remarked on how personal it seemed, not contrived, less like a funeral and more like a celebration of the life of my husband and my family. Much of this is because of the thoughtful eulogies that were provided by lifelong friends though against the backdrop of the incredibly personal and accurate photo montage being displayed throughout the room. And then I got the bill. There was video, there were photos and even a special canvas that Gary thoughtfully had made based on our conversations. He helped me with printed obituaries in newspapers in two states, notification of Federal Agencies and an array of arrangements that I had never considered. The estimate he gave me on the day we first spoke was $100 different from the final bill after I made many changes to the arrangements. I never felt like I was being up-sold. At every step of the way and still today, I was grieving. Cunningham Turch was and is aware of that and very warmly and thoughtfully guided me through an event that, just a short time ago, would have been unthinkable.

As an owner of a small business in Arlington, I am very particular about customer service. In March of this year we were told that my 95 year old father-in-law was nearing his final months of life. I then began our search for a funeral home. After having spoken to several funeral homes whose names I recognized, I was appalled to learn how commercial and sales oriented the funeral industry had become. When I reached out to Cunningham Turch I was delighted to speak with funeral director Jae Turner. Ms. Turner went over various options for my family to consider, and being aware that our needs were simple, she suggested those options that would meet our needs without running up a huge expense for my mother-in-law. In addition, Cunningham Turch really understands the needs of a military family.Ms. Turner was compassionate, professional and efficient when the time came to call on her services last week. We are extremely grateful to Cunningham Turch for exhibiting such professionalism and ethics. Her kindness touched us deeply.

One of the most modern and beautiful funeral homes I have visited as President of the Virginia Funeral Directors Association. Michael Turch has remodeled the funeral home over the last year or so and given it new life. As soon as you come in the funeral home you enter the rotunda which is spectacular. I toured the funeral home and was most impressed with the building and decor. In the chapel, they were adding the capability of being able to play a life tribute DVD and/or favorite scenery of a loved one on screens in the entire chapel to make it very personable. They are very pro-active in making sure a service is detailed to your needs. As I was given the tour, I met some of the other employees who seemed to be very professional, friendly and caring.

My son was cremated, but prior to cremation, they washed him and dressed him up for family viewing.I am so happy that my sons funeral was absolutely beautiful. The family who came, loved seeing all the remembrance pictures in surround in the funeral hall, and on a very large, nicely done poster at the entrance of the funeral Hall. The Funeral Home is large and beautiful, and nice rooms were open to us through out the time we were there. We had the repast there and amso happy we did. One friend said the room in which we had the repast, made the gathering so intimate! The two men on duty could not be more kind and helpful. They took responsibility for clean up, after the repast. There is no doubt that funerals are expensive these days, But, for what we paid, and the service we got, the atmosphere, and the gifts we left with, was much more than any Funeral Home I know of has to offer. The layout of the service program was artistically done. They gifted us with a sufficient number of personal, beautifully designed thank you cards. The guest book given, was not just a book for people to sign. It was personalized throughout, with my sons pictures, and with a nice covering. We were able to take home the beautiful poster Gary made. He also made a CD for us to have. And the urn was beautiful, and was engraved.I would highly recommend Cunningham funeral home. My husband passed about 2 weeks ago. In accordance with his wishes for a simple cremation, we were referred by the NOVA Burial and Cremation Society to Cunningham Turch in Alexandria. From the time we first spoke on the telephone to Brenda and visiting the funeral home the day before the viewing, we were struck by their warmth, sincerity, professionalism and willingness to facilitate whatever the familys wishes were. Jae was always available, even after hours, answering the many questions we had.The viewing was on a Wednesday. Alexandria wont permit a crematorium in the city, so it is located in a sister facility in Dale City.Even though Jae communicated at the time that the cremation would take place 4 to 5 business days after the viewing, she went over and beyond duty to accommodate our wish to have the cremation on Saturday, so several family members could be present. She spent all day Thursday making phone calls, and getting the death certificate so the ME could do the required examination on Friday. For this we are so, so very thankful and appreciative. When I went to the funeral home on Monday to pick up the death certificates and my husbands ashes, I encountered a grieving family, there to make the necessary funeral arrangements. Told them about my experience and that they had made an excellent decision in choosing Cunningham. In hearing that, Im sure they were a little bit less apprehensive about what they were about to experience themselves.

BEST SERVICE I could ever ask for. I will not name the other funeral home I have an experience with, but compared to my experience there, Cunningham Turch was top of the line.Anyone who has lost someone will tell you this process is very difficult emotionally to go through. I never felt I was being sold a thing here, or pushed to get the nicer this or that. Jeremy Blake dealt with me and was very compassionate through and through. I was charged THOUSANDS less here, and received various extras that I was told were add-ons at a competitors funeral home during my last loss.Im sure the packages change and my experience cant be expected by everyone for each visit, but I feel it only honest to compare the two side by side. I chose cremation for both loved ones and did not hold a funeral:Competitor Experience:The viewing prior to cremation was held in a private room, and they were on a table under a white blanket, I dont believe they were dressed underneath but chose not to investigate. It seemed more like a body ID then a final viewing. This was because we did not opt for a funeral and formal viewing (that part was quit expensive for us). The director assisted us with having an obituary notice put into the paper and provided us with a nice webpage where a longer obituary was posted, along with many pictures we were able to upload for others to visit. We were asked to provide clothes or other belongings to be cremated with them. We were provided with the remains in a black HDPE plastic container. I felt that at each turn, if we were not spending top dollar when asked, it was very evident in the presentation. Almost like they were rubbing that fact in.Cunningham Turch Experience:I was asked to provide clothes and other belongings for the viewing and to be cremated with them. I was provided with small baseball sized prayer cards as well as a holiday-sized card version and a signature book. I was given suggestions of verses to use for these which helped a lot. The director also helped post an obituary in the newspaper as well as providing a place for a longer online obituary and pictures for others to view. One note I have is the website was not fully updated with the pictures I wanted when the newspaper obituary was run so if people went there that day, they would have seen an unfinished page. The viewing was more of a formal style viewing even though I opted not to have a formal funeral and viewing. My loved one was in a very nice, well-lit room, in a casket (even though they were to be cremated and not put into a casket, so this was not bought, it was just provided for the viewing) and clothed in the clothes I provided, even with the necklace I provided put on. It was a very respectful way to have the final viewing, very beautiful. I am not very familiar with this process and was not told it would be so different from my last experience so I didnt invite anyone to come expecting a repeat of my first time. I wish I had invited others, if I was told how the viewing would go here I would have, but I cant blame anyone for that. The remains were presented in blue velour bag with a faux wood container holding the actual remains which was much nicer to see your loved one in then the plastic container. I felt I was treated as if my loved one was also their loved one, and that no matter what package I chose to pay for, I never once was reminded I didnt spend big money by the presentation. So, to recap, Cunningham Turch was exponentially better and a few thousand dollars cheaper and they provided more than just the cremation although that is all we paid for in both places. Even if I had to have my loved one transported a few hundred miles I would still choose Cunningham Turch over anyone else.Thank you, Jeremy, for all you provided during such a hard time in anyones life.

ATTN: VETERAN LOVED ONES - On November 30, 2016 Cunningham Turch Funeral Home held my fathers service. My father Paul Hilton Woods was a Vietnam Veteran who passed away on 10/24/16 at the VA Medical Center in Washington, DC from Colon Cancer (Agent Orange). His wish was to be buried at the National Arlington Cemetery. He also wished every Veteran with Services Dogs Attended his service and he asked that he have Doo-Wop music playing at his service. Cunningham Turch made all this happen for my father. They went above and beyond to ensure that our family and my father be honored and have the best send off to National Arlington Cemetery. It was impeccable. My father was taken to Arlington Cemetery in a Harley Hearse while 20 officers in Uniform on Motorcycles provided services and Michael Turch himself leading the precession. The Funeral Service welcomed Service Dogs and also ensured we were able to have ample time with loved ones. If you are a loved one of a Veteran and you are looking to hold a service in proximity to the Arlington Cemetery, you need to house your families body and/or remains onsite for a duration due to the time wait..they offer low fees for this service and they are only 15 minutes from Interment. I recommend this Funeral Home to anyone and I will be sure to go back for my remaining family and myself. As my father would say...SEMPER FI!

This place is the worst. When my father passed away the hospital told me they would contact me. I waited one full day and contacted them. The receptionist was rude and unthoughtful to the point t of arguing with me. I changed plans in a hurry.
