She keeps up with contemporary styles and always gives me the best tips and tricks for caring for my curls at home. Will be a forever customer.

My hair was so soft and lasted for weeks! Friendly staff too. They gave me an awesome color and blowout. I loved my experience and hope to be able to visit again soon. The manager and her daughter are the most friendly people ever!! This is a must for natural girls who want straight hair without heat damage!

The people are really friendly and easy going. They consider the results and health of their customer’s hair. They just over charge a lot, and even though I had a somewhat pleasant experience, I feel as if I can’t leave my home due to how awful I look. I look like a 2006 Bratz doll, or Draculaura from monster high. The highlights, well done and professionally handled, make me look like a joke. I cried when I looked in the mirror because I knew I’m stuck looking like this for the next year (the products they use are high quality and ling lasting, worth it if you don’t look like a middleschooler going through the rebellious phase). I’m seriously considering a wig.

I’ve been to special touch a few times, and all my previous experiences were okay, but the last time I went the service was so bad I’ll never go back. First they refused to cut my hair in the style I wanted, and said that if I wanted I could return and she’d finish the cut. I think if I’m the one paying for it, then I should be able to choose the style I want to wear. Then the stylist had a really bad attitude the entire time she was doing my hair. It’s also extremely UNPROFESSIONAL when you are speaking about my hair over my hair, in a different language, when you can clearly speak English. Yes, they are good at doing hair but there’s nothing special about their touch!

I’ve been coming to this salon since 2002. Thank You Maria and Team (Christina) for taking care of my Mom and I all these years. (And a few friend’s along the way). I can say I’m a “lifer.” I have had long hair, short hair, and all the basic coloring, Red, black, brown, blonde, highlights, low lights. I’ve come to them before going out or events and I’m never disappointed. They have taken care of my at-home hair coloring mistakes or in between bad hair cuts from other salons if I was impatient or not wanting to make the drive. They can match colors perfectly if I got lucky with my at home color while waiting for my next appointment. My roots come in every three weeks but my appointments are generally once every two months. I always leave feeling like my hair looks great. It’s very soft and noticeable. The blow outs are unsurpassed by any other salon in the area that I have been to. I never have to go home and “fix” my hair style after leaving. They have an amazing technique to their blow outs for all hair types that I have seen while observing. I always get compliments right away.The Salon is clean and the atmosphere is friendly. They have a good system of rotation between the coloring chairs, shampoo stations, hair drying, and cutting areas. I’ve been there as early as they open, mid- day, and right before they close. I’m always seen right away. It’s a busy salon and I don’t mind the wait. My appointments are anywhere between 2-3 hours. I can read, relax, close my eyes, and listen to the music or the chatter among the Customer’s and Hair stylists.I have “European” hair (Irish, Greek / Italian). It’s naturally curly / wavy and tends to be very, very dry. I normally air dry curly during the week. Maria and her Team know just what to do with it and recommend products that work for me which is difficult to find. They use a good conditioner so my hair is very soft for several days after I leave.What I love the most it’s that a FAMILY owned business. Its obvious they take great pride in their work. Maria really cares about her clients. When I cannot see her, she always gives good instructions for her staff for me. I trust them all. When I do see her, her Faith is contagious. Coming for so many years and going through life’s hardships it’s natural to talk about life. She always has the right words of something positive and uplifting to say to me even if it’s a few minutes of talking.The best part is that when I come in with one of my “ideas” for my hair she’s quick to lead me off of what could be a very bad hair path towards something that is realistic and will work as my hair slowly ages. Most places would not question my horrible idea and just do it. She listens but also gives suggestions of what would be best for me (Sometimes the customer is not always right). It’s always good to have someone set you straight when it comes to hair maintenance. She is able to create a look that goes with my complexion and a good cut for the shape of my face while taking into account my curls. I can go home and wear my hair curly or straight and it falls naturally.For all of the reasons above, I would highly recommend Special Touch in Alexandria. Carve out those three hours, make the drive, grab a coffee or snack at the many eatery’s in the shopping plaza, relax, and let the magic happen.Thank You Special Touch International Hair Salon!

I love this place. I havent been here in a long time but I have never had a bad experience.

I will NEVER go to this place again!!!! I am shocked beyond belief. I can in for just a trim. I keep my hair healthy and as many have said before, they asked me if my hair was permed. I said yes. She said sit in the chair which i waited until about 15 min. I really wanted my hair trimmed so i waited with my daughter. Some lady comes up to me and starts brushing my hair hard and rough then starts trimming it. She didnt give me her name say hello or anything. She was rough the whole time and she seemed like she was in a rush. I doubt she even trimmed it correctly. She seemed unsure of how to trim it. She gave me layers and my hair in the front is short. She never asked me how i wanted it trimmed or what kind of cut. When the receptionist rang me up, she says,.......$$$$$30. I was confused. I never had my hair washed or anything. Just said in the chair and had it trimmed for about 10 min. This is highway robbery. I regret that i came here. I could have gotten a better trim at the Ethiopian salons at skyline. The parking is bad since its soo busy there so i just came here. I told them i could have gotten it styled for 35 not just trimmed!!!!! They charge by length, man or woman, thickness. Its unfair to judge someone and others pay less when you pay more. My hair is not even shoulder length and $30 is a LOT. Another woman had longer hair and had a blowout and was charged $80, she was European and was just as confused as i was when she was charged as well. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS SALON!!! EVER!!!!!

I love this place, I have been going there for about 10 yrs and my stylist always deliver whatever is the color, or the haircut... I have very long and very tight curls, and my stylist Maricarmen always leave me looking spectacular!! I also take my mom and I use to bring my Dad too. Everyone is very kind and we always feel welcomed.Well worth the drive and the waiting. Just make sure you call for an appointment because it is usually very busy...Thanks for all you do ladies, Jossie.P

Loved this place, service was great. I come from NYC and only go to Dominicans for my hair since its so curly, prices were higher then I expected for just a trim.But the ladies were lovely. I definitely recommend.

This is the only salon that Ive been going to since 2012. When I go I always get a wash and set, and trim. Im originally from NY and this is the most affordable salon for this area. I havent had a perm since 2010, and they have never recommended me to get one. My hair length is halfway down my back. This place is so good and quick. Highly recommend Special Touch!

By far my favorite salon! Reyna makes my hair look amazing, And everybody is so pleasant. I came 30 minutes late and they still allowed me to get my hair done!

Everyone at the salon is talented, but also lazy which leads to poor execution. Consistent laziness and rushing will lead to damaged hair. In addition, the prices are always fluctuating, the appointment system is flawed and there is a dash of colorism. I do not recommend for new clients because they will make poor decisions about your hair.

The stylist Miguelina is AMAZING!!!! My experience at this salon was exceptional. It was not like the usual experience where the stylist has booked several clients and just keeps you waiting for hours. This is the fastest Ive ever left the salon. Miguelina is very personable; she made my time in her chair very comfortable. She explained what she was doing and encouraged me to ask questions. She gets an A++++ in my book. I would recommend her to everyone!

I have natural thick hair... You wouldnt know after these ladies give you a nice blow and press. They use awesome products and the atmosphere is spiritual and relaxing.

Went for the first time yesterday, they seemed to do a really good job on their customers. No negative talking in Spanish (they didnt know I understood) so I enjoyed the service. I do think they should use a little more moisturizer on the hair depending on the hair types. My hair was beautiful not when I walked out of the door, but about 6 hours later when my curls fell (use to walking out looking flawless). Then after dancing, my hair was back to a super frizz, but I didnt get a hard press or flat iron so dont want to put that on their business. I did get a really good trim from Chana. Will update this with more feedback and a better assessment after my next visit there.

They started good, but after a couple of appointments, they started to play with time, they are bad keeping appointments. Owner is rude and he thinks that with a simple “I am sorry” is enough. If I schedule an appointment, I expect to be attend at that time!!

I had to re-write my review. The first time I went to get my hair washed and deep conditioned the stylist were nice. The last few times I went it, it became awkward they stop greeting me. I was charged $55 for a wash and deep conditioning the first time, then I was was charged $50 for the same service and last time I went in to get a full wash & set and it was $55 (pretty confused with the pricing at this point)... a wash should not cost the same as a full wash and set w/ styling.I also asked how I can repair my natural hair and I was unable to get an answer from the stylist.I go to the hair salon because I assume that the stylist are knowledgeable about hair care and when they ask me questions about how they should continue the process of doing my hair or do not know how to repair damaged hair (not even a little advice), I ultimately lose confidence in them.

This is the best hair dresser. Im a guy and have used then for years. Give them a try and I promise you wont be disappointed.

I went into the Salon, with a particular hairstyle in mind. Not only did they take what I wanted but they made it work for me! Went in as a brunette left a blonde, very happy with the out come!

My hair styles was excellent. I went in at 10:30 am, and was done at 11:45 am. This was perfect timing because I did not have to reschedule my entire day due to an hair appointment taking 4 to 5 hrs. 😉

This place was awful. I would not recommend coming here ever. The women spoke in Spanish foul things about me not knowing I could understand them. They overcharged me for my services, and didn’t communicate what I wanted done to my hair. The person doing my hair didn’t even say one word to me, and this entire experience made me super uncomfortable. Do not spend your money here! Kindness goes a far way, and the employees need to learn how to be polite to customers and their needs.

My daughter loves her hair. She said they burned her a couple of times... This was her first blow out. I think its a little pricey. They charge by thickness and length. My daughter hair is thick and natural but few inches past her shoulder. If we return it will be for special occasions only. $90. We shall see how long it will last.

The asbsolute best salon in the area. I treated my girlfriend to a haircut here. She looked radiant.

It isnt my custom to write reviews, but seeing as how Im still thinking about my experience at Special Touch, I am compelled to post one here. Let me begin by stating that I am pleased with my hair, however, I deeply regret my overall experience. The front desk was courteous, I was seated almost immediately, but once I heard Marie react to my hair, my appointment went downhill. I am a regular black girl who needed a relaxer and trim. I stated that when I called to book my time and restated it when I wrote it in the sign-in log. I could tell Marie was not pleased and / or disapproved of my hair texture while also saying semi-dramatically, Oy Mami you need a trim! (Ummm... yes. I did).It took about an hour and a half for me to be styled after my dryer stopped. (Im sure of the time because I watched a whole episode of The Sopranos and read a chapter in my book). In part my extended wait was because another customer was prioritized higher than me. Marie apologized profusely, but honestly, it just felt superficial because it already seemed like that was the plan.When attempting to describe my style, Marie highly recommended that I NOT get what I requested due to my curl (a word she struggled to say when it was obvious she meant my texture). I even showed her pictures of the same style I was requesting because Ive been wearing it for years. However, due to my not taking the best care of my hair for the past few months (hence my being at the salon), I guess Marie felt she would save me from myself and simply not give me what I had asked for. But nonetheless, I was pleased with her compromise even though it meant me swallowing the passive insult.Marie also did my eyebrows, and again, she was not pleased with something about me, this time it was my right brow. She made repeated commentary how my left brow was prettier and stated that I should grow my right one so it can be shaped pretty like the left. (Both brows were practically fully grown, and this was with intention so that I could have them shaped professionally). And then when I got home, I *still* had to clean them up.I must say that what made my experience the absolute worst was that even though I dont speak fluent Spanish, I understood enough. I knew that Marie voiced her opinions about my hair to the other stylist(s). She actually spoke about me WHILE I was in the seat as she was doing my hair. It almost felt like a walk of shame whenever I moved through the salon.Marie presented all the professional, but topical niceties, but it was clear nothing about me was acceptable - not even my business. I am incredibly disappointed and will not be returning to Special Touch. I will not recommend the salon to anyone I know. How could I after practically being made to feel embarrassment because of my stylists disapproval of my hair texture, its thinness, the style I wanted, my eyebrow--and all this in conjunction with the little regard for my business as a paying customer being made to wait the way I did? Because the salon seems to have a nice following and stays busy, Im sure it will not miss my business. However, I hope that going forward, no one has the experience I had.Best regards,The 9:30 A.M. First time going and it will be my last. I thought it was a Ethiopian salon found out it was a Dominican salon. I had very bad experience with Dominican salons I needed my hair done so I went. I felt the beautician was rushing when doing my hair. I would have gone to my salon but unfortunately its closed and monday.
