Ive had nothing but a good experience here. My first child went to the PreK program, loved her teachers and classmates and never had problems. We are going to try to get her into the before and after school for next year. My younger daughter is in a 2-3 age class. Granted, yes, two of her teachers left around the same time and so there was different people helping out to cover while they found someone new. But overall, this place has much less turnover than other childcare places Ive found. Many of the teachers have early childhood education and teach actual curriculum. They do a LOT of sensory play, and so we just bring extra clothes, and the kids have a good time. They go outside and play pretty much rain or shine, which I think is great. Ive never seen any negative discipline. Class sizes are small, usually 2 teachers for 8-10 kids during the day. Its a bit pricey, but absolutely worth it.

I worked at UNMCC for two months of my life that I can never get back. I came into it with almost twenty years of working in the field of education, much of it with preschool. In previous jobs, I had received awards, promotions and raises for my performance. I dont say that to toot my horn, but just to illustrate how degrading it was to come into the environment of UNMCC. Nothing I did was every right. Things I had been trained to do were considered abuse (denying children anything they wanted, teaching them manners, instilling any sort of order in the classrooms). If a child cussed, I was instructed to cuss back at them, because it supposedly de-mystifies the word. The fellow teachers talked like monotone drones. No matter what I said or did, it was somehow wrong. It was very dehumanizing. I was not liked, and I resigned before I could be let go. I still have nightmares from those two months--the worst months of my life.

This used to be an amazing place, but it has gone downhill. My child has been bitten, scratched, hit, had dirt thrown At him - all of these things on his face and body multiple times with no real action or consequences. There was also a very aggressive child that many children were bullied by (physically & emotionally).I watched a student-caretaker yell at my child (5 years old) while standing over him after he got pushed because she didn’t know I could see her from inside while they were lining up.A teacher called me and left a voicemail saying that my child got bit because he threw something at another child, but when I got there to pick him up and I asked him about it he said that the child bit him first. When I confronted the teacher she changed her story and admitted that this was true. There have been countless unresolved problems and teachers picking on certain kids even after we met with the director, lead teacher, and assistant teacher. If I had another child they would not be going here. They are not safe or well protected. The great lead teachers always leave, and I see why.

Ok so as a person who takes care of children who attend this facility Im shocked to see the structure. When picking up children that are playing outside in the cold weather I find them without shoes on (juniper room) or coats. Childrens noses are filthy with mucas wandering and spreading germs because no one cleans their nose. As far as the potty training area they are teaching nothing about privacy as kids are in there without clothing on sitting on toilets out in the open in between two open classrooms for everyone to see. Anyone whos dropping off kids picking up kids and even employees who work at the daycare care, be it cooks, custodian s etc are able to see children potty training. That makes no sense. And the teaching staff there is not consistent. On any given day there are different staff in the class room from one day to the next. No wonder children cry when you leave they dont recognize the person your leaving them with.I just think I thought the place would be much better run considering it UNM. I wouldnt put my children in there.
