No concern for the residents.Except from a few caring staff members. This place went completely downhill once it was bought by a large corporation. They lost the heart and soul of The Cottages. It became a machine instead of the caring home it used to be.I would never put a family member here again.

When my mom went to the Cottages three+ years ago, it was the most amazing caring place: well staffed with wonderful nurses and aides. Since Emeritus has purchased the Cottages, it has gone straight downhill. They have laid off most of the long term staff. Where previously there was a nurse in each cottage, now there is one for both cottages. They have eliminated most of the nurses and replaced them with questionably qualified med techs. Often residents are alone in their cottage and I have had to find another visitor on occasion in order to leave the locked facility. It used to be that there was an open door policy among management so we could stop by any time to visit with them. Now management is behind closed doors. Since the new ED took over a month ago, we have not evenmet him. The promised family meeting has still not occurred. They have a spiffy new van parked outside for some unknown purpose since these residents do not take outside trips. We estimate the cost for the handicapped accessible van to be in the neighborhood of $50,000 to $100,000. These funds would have been better spent on nurses to care for the residents. If my mom were not so frail now, we would move her in a heartbeat. Their occupancy rate is dropping as patients continue to leave. Do not put your loved one in this place. Their only concern is for corporate profit.
