Ignore the reviews that are more than three months old. This facility was recently purchased by a new management company and it has been TERRIBLE. No communication, staff leaving in droves, we can’t go in because of the pandemic and I shudder to think what is happening to people with no advocate. I’m actively looking for somewhere to move my loved one. There has to be a better choice.

My mother has lived at Atria Vista del Rio for the past 2.5 years. She lives in the memory care unit (Life Guidance). She actively participates in bingo games, art classes, discussions of current events, chair exercise, and Friday happy hours with music. She blossomed while living there, following my dads death. She became the person the staff looked to to help lead residents in group discussions or exercise and a good listener to those who wanted to talk. The food is good and the staff are very capable. There are opportunities to get out and see the city (on van rides) and to enjoy music with the larger community. Spring, summer, and fall in the secure courtyard adds an ability to get outside.

Our mother is 90 and has been at Atria since 2016. Her level of functioning in her home was very low, and it wasnt clear if she would make it in assisted living. Thanks to the excellent nutrition and luscious meals, some community involvement, and above all, the attentive and engaged staff, she is close to thriving. We wish she would takemore advantage of the available activities, which are plentiful. In my estimation the employee engagement and bright smiles I see is thanks to good management and i would recommend Atria without hesitation.

When my mom was in hospice and my dad had dementia they moved to Atrias memory care unit. Atria is not a medical facility so my mom couldnt stay there long, but my dad lived there for over a year. He has since moved to 2 other memory care facilities, which made me realize that the care at Atria was the best he could get.Clarissa, who was in charge of the memory wing, provided personal care for my 70 year old dad, keeping him active, attending to his needs, helping get him a dog (he was a lifetime dog owner and his dog in the facility was a great comfort to him)- but she also spent a lot of time helping our family adjust and learn about alzheimers disease. The entire staff was very communicative and friendly as well.I also thought the food was pretty good (we had christmas and thanksgiving dinners there), the location was extremely convenient for us, and the grounds and rooms were expertly maintained by a crew who kept the residents safe.

My 91 year-old mom has been at Atria since July of 2012. The attention from all staff has been outstanding ... so kind, so gentle. Both she & I have become quite fond of them. Thank you!

My husband lived at Atria Vista in the memory care unit from Sept. 2012 to January 2013. Hopefully things have changed since then, but I moved him due to SEVERE NEGLECT. He fell about 10:00 one night in early January. NO STAFF WITH ANY AUTHORITY had shown up for work and though paramedics were called, they had to contact me because the fact that he was on HOSPICE could not be confirmed. NO ONE WITH AUTHORITY responded to my repeated phone calls during the night from my husbands room until 7:30 in the morning. The headquarters for Atria Vista were notified, but there was no satisfactory follow up and I moved my husband within 6 days. During those days I HIRED a private nurse to be with him from 10PM to 10AM and I or a friend stayed with him the rest of the time.

I am going to tell you my story and DO NOT TAKE IT DOWN. People should know my story. I was a resident for a year and a half. I was one of the younger residents. 1st, Sales Rep told me a price & I told her when I wanted to move. When they put the contract in front of me, it was 500 dollars more & the lease was a month earlier. I almost said no but they asked me to pay half of the earlier month to hold it. 2nd, after living there for 2 months, I had bronchitis. I tried to talk to the nurse there and she would not listen, rather she called an ambulance. When I got to the Emergency room the Doctor was puzzled. She said that the nurse sent me for a psychological evaluation (I had bronchitis). Since I was stuck in the lease, I didnt move out and I should have right then. When I came back, the night nurse said that everyone heard that I had a nervous breakdown. I only cried because the nurse would not listen to me. 2 months later, they gave me a cheaper room. It was 100 steps from the expensive room. The mover who contracts with Atria called me at 8 pm the night before to tell me they would move me the next morning. She would not tell me how much it would cost. After 20 minutes of asking, she told me to move 100 steps it would cost $500 dollars.I am a disabled woman with autoimmune illnesses & I moved myself that night, finishing at 6 AM for I didnt want to pay $500 to move 100 steps from room to room. (It really didnt matter since the 1st of the year, the price went up right back to the expensive room.) 3rd, they lost an awesome director and put a woman who quit to stay home with her newborn and she was back about one month after the baby was born. She was frazzled. I had some problems with how some of the caregivers treated me and she would just say SNAP OUT OF IT. (WOULDNT WE ALL WANT TO SNAP OUT OF IT!). My autoimmune disease is Fibromyalgia & Myalgic Encephalomyelitis which make us sentivitive in both mind and body. The salesperson kept talking to me about people calling about more people wanting to move in with my condition. She promised me for 3 MONTHS, almost every week that we would talk to the Director about this condition since we can be sensitive when one tells us to SNAP OUT OF IT! (who I see now is gone,as I write this; she was not up for that type of job) I just want to say also that this salesperson also would tell me how fat she was and she must have been about 5 foot 5 and 90 pounds, info I didnt need. I think she was anorexic and as a resident, that is inappropriate. The last time this salesperson promised she didnt do it and I got upset. That weekend, I asked the receptionist where was the information for the Ombudsman for the Dept. of Aging and all she could say to me was WHATS AN OMBUDSMAN? (come to find out that most of the receptionist and staff didnt know what the Ombudsman was, not good). I felt what do the older people who are not lucid as I am get through this? I gave my notice. 4th, I met a person around my age who was in Atria for a broken hip and had a friendship with her. When I moved out, she seemed to be extremely paranoid and I found out that she was a Paranoid Schizophrenic with Bi Polar and not taking her medication. I WAS ONLY ABLE TO FIND THIS OUT BECAUSE ONE OF YOUR EMPLOYEES GAVE ME THE PRIVATE TELEPHONE NUMBER OF HER SISTER. This is a violation of patient privacy. I got along great with the residents. But the disarray of the Staff sickens me to this day. There were many good staffers, KELLY, LISA, IRENE, DALE (ALTHOUGH HE LIED TO ME ONCE ABOUT TEACHING A CLASS). Again, do not take this post down for I will repost it every day. There were more things that happened but I have repressed them.

They told us things that would do for my father who has demintia. They did not do an thing that said they would. When they were called the would not talk or retuning the call. They then evicted my father and required a 24/7 babysitter while we found somewhere he could go. That was a cost of $2000 in about a week, on top of the rent he had already paid.

Atria Vista del Rio has several outstanding employees. There are two, however, that really shine. The first employee is Lisa Tvedten, in the Activities Dept. I have never met someone so dedicated to her residents as she. Shes kind, compassionate, and will do anything to help anyone who needs anything -- big or small. Lisa should be commended for being an exemplary staff member. The second employee is Maria (Mari) Elena Montoya, a receptionist at the front desk. Mari is great at what she does. Shes wonderful with the residents, kind to the other staff, and excellent with visitors. Mari is extremely efficient as well. She wears many hats, and they fit her well. Please let her know how valuable she is as a member of your team.Id like to make an honorable mention for Ashley (sorry, I dont know her last name), in the Food Service Dept. I know that she has two young sons. She is part of the wait staff. She is a great server. She knows the preferences of all her residents. Ashley will go the extra mile for those she serves. I know she works really hard, and it would be nice for her to be recognized for her efforts. Thanks to all who make my moms life a little bit better.Sincerely,Carla ZabalzaResidents daughter and frequent visitor
