It’s always scary moving someplace new and building trust all over again with your hair. Everyone in the salon is wonderful and talented. I’m self employed and it’s an absolute treat to talk shop while having your hair needs met! My hair has been in the best shape its ever been, and it’s hard for me to want to trust anyone else with my hair.I’m an artist and I love color. I always get compliments on my hair wherever I go. Nicole has been with me for the entire journey of my hair. When we met my hair was very long compared to now. The same amount of attention and care is given no matter the length, something I really really appreciate.No idea seems to crazy or wild. For the first time, I feel I can ask for anything within the limits of my hair, and if I had any questions, she’s happy to talk through everything. I’m so used to being shut down for even asking about bold hair colors in the past. She’s helped me feel confident not only in my hair but I’m asking for specific styles or colors too! I used to be a little shy when asking about things! It’s refreshing to give an idea a chance and for it to be such a fun inspiring experience in a uplifting positive environment.Ive been a client for 5-6 years. The first experience with this salon (for my friend) was great. They were so friendly and very helpful; unfortunately this wasn’t the same experience for the second time. I brought my friends daughter to get boxed braids and things were a bit of a mess. First off, the appointment time communicated at booking was not accurate and they did not write down my friends number correctly so she wasn’t notified of the correct information. Additionally, the email confirmation had a different date and time, which made it more confusing. Luckily I happened to call on my way (we live 1 1/2hrs away) to see if we could come early only to find out this information, but this issue caused us to be an hour late for what time they expected. When we got there they were super nice and took her right in. I’ll admit, I’m Latino and know very little about how long braids take so I asked how long I should expect- I was told 5 or so hours. Every time I asked my friends daughter the time got longer- I was a bit frustrated because I had my 3 month old and 3 other small children with me. I understand these things take time but if I had been more informed I could have planned better, the whole thing took about 8 hrs. Never the less I was frustrated about the time issue and how long it took but her stylist was super apologetic and so nice about everything so I was convinced I would definitely return and even book my younger son an appointment because he has super curly hair. Unfortunately I was very sad to learn that while my friends daughter was having her hair done Nicole was saying not so nice things about myself and the situation. I understand the need to vent and update what was probably her business partner, but to do it in front of a teen client was so unprofessional. Also putting me down because I kept saying I had my 3 month old with me, which I only brought up as to express why I was so upset with the lack of communication. Also, saying “these kind of people don’t know about cultural hair” was just so completely disrespectful. No, I don’t know, which is why I asked. It is not unreasonable for me to expect a professional to give me an idea of a time frame it takes to do something they do all the time. Looking up this business I am so disheartened to see it’s Veteran led. As a disabled veteran I would expect more integrity out of a veteran led business. I really wanted to like this place because her hair did look great, but the disrespectful things that were said doesn’t make this possible.

Our 9 year old saw Nicole and I cannot say enough good things about her! She was patient, caring and absolutely amazing! Our girl got the royal treatment and was beyond excited! Nicole, again we cannot thank you enough! Her first experience was the best and we will be making the 2+ hour trek monthly from here on out!

There are many reviews here for the salon and I went to the salon to do a makeup trial and loved it. I will be going to them to get my shoulder length 4c hair pressed and trimmed and for extensions going forward. But really, this review is to help any Brides looking for someone to do hair and makeup for their wedding. LISTEN, BOOK Nicole and Tara! They are the most professional, most personable, and most talented hair and makeup team in upstate, Catskills, Capital Region, Saratoga Spring NY area. And trust me, I did tons of research to find them! They traveled two hours by car to style me for my wedding in the Catskills mountains. And their pricing was absolutely reasonable for me and my mother, my cousin and my best friend. The morning of my wedding, Tara and Nicole showed up on time and made what couldve been a stressful morning so relaxing. It was like having two more friends in the room. My caterers said they could hear us all laughing upstairs while we were getting ready. I loved that before the wedding, Nicole always answered emails within an appropriate time frame and that their appointment system sends out reminders the day before any appointments. The last thing you want to worry about on your wedding day is that your makeup and hair person might not show up - but I felt confident, even with the 2-hour drive in the mountains with minimal service, that they would be there on time and they were!Makeup: I was nervous about finding the right person. Someone who could match my brown skin tone (no gray face or mismatched foundation) and give me a glam, natural and glowing look. Tara put me at ease! She listened to what I wanted and offered great suggestions, but never made me feel bad for my choices. My trial went amazingly and the wedding day look was even better! Honestly, if I ever go to another event, Im going to get my makeup done with her. My cousin, best friend, and mom also got their makeup done. Each has their own unique style and has slightly different shades of brown skin and they all LOVED their make-up and looked amazing - both in person and in the photos. Thats right! None of that, your makeup looks caked on in person but will look good in photos. My makeup looked great both in person and in photos!Hair: Nicole did an amazing job on my hair. I needed someone who was comfortable with natural, kinky hair because I wanted to wear my 4 c hair down and natural. I bought clip-ins for length and I could tell by the ease with which Nicole inspected them that she was a pro. She had no problem styling my hair to match the kinky clip-ins perfectly! And I was not an easy bride. At the last minute, I told Nicole I wanted to incorporate a braid into my hairstyle, and she thought about it and immediately got to work. She came up with such a beautiful and creative hairstyle incorporating the braid. Everyone at the wedding complimented me on my hair.  It was exactly what I was looking for - a Solange meets Issa Rae look for my rustic bohemian wedding dress. I cant say enough positive things about my experience with Nichole and her team. She and the makeup artist were right on time. There were 6 of us getting hair and makeup done and they executed flawlessly. Everyones hair was done beautifully and matched exactly what we asked for. The makeup was AMAZING and so natural looking. Everyone looked airbrushed and photo ready. Nichole and her makeup artist were also a TON of fun! We were all giggling and laughing the entire time. Ms. Nicole is always professional she is to nice sometimes and people take that for granted. The rude people that come to her salon that dont know how to do there children hair are always unhappy. To you I say do your own child hair damnit!

My 14 year old daughter had to sit in a chair from 12pm -8pm without food while getting her hair braided .They took many breaks. Her appointment was suppose to be at 1pm on sept 1st called at 11am and said it was at 1115. Checked email and the email said it was on sept 2nd and had two different times on the email. They stated they sent me a text message, I told them I didn’t receive a text message, they read my number to me and they had my number in the system wrong. They kept telling me another hour another hour . I drove a hour and a half with my other four children. This was the worst experience EVER! Will never return again!

DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!Absolutely awful experience at Hair Journeys. Will NEVER EVER GO BACK. After my 15-year-old daughter spent 9 hours in her chair (two of those hours she wasn’t attended to at all) I came to pick her up an hour after closing time to braids that were not only unfinished but sectioned so horribly it was embarrassing. The owner tried to argue with me like I didn’t know what I was talking about and then in the end still charged me $260. I knew that the box braids started at $180 but I was appalled that she still charged me for an unfinished and terrible job. I ended up paying because I just wanted to get out of there. After a few days she agreed to refund our money, when I went to go pick it up she refused to give it back because we had left a negative review on her Google page.

I love love love Ms Nicole. She has been a gift from God for my natural hair.

Ive been coming to this salon for the past 6 months, getting silk presses done by Nicole. Nicole does the best silk presses around! The best part is that I have ZERO heat damage with my hair always reverting back to its natural texture.

I got my hair relaxed for the first time ever yesterday and it was an amazing experience! Nicole is so sweet and clearly knows what she’s doing professionally. The place had a great atmosphere and was very clean. Nicole took her time on my hair, never yanking at it or anything like that. My only issue was that I was quoted a slightly lower price over the phone to what I paid. It’s not a big deal though because you’re paying for quality. I would rather pay more and have the incredible results I had than to pay less and look crazy! I will %1000 percent be going back. My hair looks and feels so healthy. Finding someone you can trust with your hair is so hard and I’m so happy I found this gem!

I called to make an appointment. As a new client, I was asked a few questions about what I wanted, and what times were best. I scheduled something for two weeks out. As soon as I hung up the phone, I received an email confirming the appointment with a click to sync it to my calendar. I received 2 more text messages reminding me of the appointment, the week before and a few days before. I felt like they knew we already.I arrive ontime and Nicole was finishing up a hair consultation. My wait was less than 5 minutes. During my wait, I took in the atmosphere. Clean, Comfortable and with neo-soul playing. It felt like there should be a speak easy in the back room.I was not prepared. I didnt know what hair style I wanted. I explained my habits and desires. Nicole brainstormed with me until we found something that felt right. It was a true hair consultation.Now that she understood my goals, I told her to do whatever she thought was best. I had no idea what color or cut I was going to come out with. But, as I requested she gave me something, professional, colorful and low - maintence.The color was much more than I have ever achieved with SoftSheen-Carson. This was professional! My split ends was gone, dry hair-is now moist, layers and precision describes my blunt cut. But most of all the up keep is easy.I will be going back. This was worth every penny.

Hair Journeys is the ONLY salon I will let touch my hair in the capital region. Nicole and her staff do an amazing job at making their clients feel like family, and making sure that they feel more than satisfied with their look before leaving their salon. If anything has ever bothered me with a cut or color, I would voice my concern and Nicole would address it immediately and I never left the shop feeling or looking less than what I came there for. I 100% recommend this salon to EVERYONE and everyone that goes there is extremely happy with their look! I won’t let anyone else touch my hair! Nicole and Kelly did a phenomenal job doing hair and makeup for my sister and I on my wedding day. They made me feel like the most beautiful bride! The makeup was natural just as I asked and my hair exceeded expectations and held up beautifully all night. My sister, who was my maid of honor, was equally pleased with Kellys styling and attentiveness. These ladies definitely know and own their craft. Terrible Terrible Terrible ! I went there to get a half up/half down style and I clearly showed the girl working there a picture of the style I wanted. I told her I had clip ins instead of tracks and she said that was fine and that she could still do the style I wanted. She proceeded to my hair and when she was finished I was unhappy because it looked nothing like the picture I showed her. She curled it and didn’t brush it out and left tracks being shown. She then decided to tell me that I got the wrong kind of hair. She should of told me she didn’t know how to do the style. I will never go here again . Don’t waste your money !!!!

$$$ The staff were pleasant though the stylist barely spoke to the client. The stylist was gentle with the hair but dont feel that my daughter got the cut she asked for. Barely any of her hair was cut off. For the price she was expected to pay the value was not all there. The star was given for service not for the cut. We went there based on reviews place was empty should have turned around and left.

I went to her after going to the Dominicans my hair was too fine for constant blow drying. I went to Nicole, and she whipped my hair back into shape. My hair is thicker and healthier.She cared for my hair like it was her own. I found this salon on a Google search and the high ratings, convinced me to call and get more info on their services. I had a Gala to go to on April 5th so I called 2.5 weeks ahead of time and asked if they could do my nails, hair and makeup for the event and to get pricing. I talked to Kelly (one of the owners) and she was very friendly and tried to give me accurate info. (Because she kept putting me on hold to ask Nicole the 2nd owner) I informed them that I have thick hair and that I wanted a semi glam look for the makeup with lashes. She said that they could do it all and quoted me $30 for a gel mani, $40 for makeup/w lashes and hair (wash and blow out) started at $45. I went ahead and booked a consultation (suggested by Kelly) for Saturday March 16th and also booked the appointments for the day of the event (Friday April 5th) hair @1pm makeup @ 3pm and nails@4pm (which I later changed to 6pm for ther day before the event (Thursday), because of time (the event was at 6pm) I went in on Saturday and all the makeup artist (Alicia) do was ask me a couple of questions (something that we could of done over the phone) . I asked if she could show me on one eye an example of her work or pictures and she said she couldnt show me on me, but showed me an Instagram video of a client. I liked the dewy foundation look and went ahead and kept the appt. I went in on Thursday 6pm sharp for my nails and didnt get called to the back until 6:29 Nicole es super nice and apologized for ther delay and set out a soaking dish for my nails while she finished with a client, it was almost 6:50 by the time we got started and the station was not prepared(she had to get up a couple of times and get other material to finish the job) it was 7:49 when she finished the manicure it was not a $31 job, bumpy, and she left one of my nails dirty underneath (I didnt realize this, until I got home) I came back on Friday for my other appointments with the intention of bringing the manicure issue to Nicoles attention, but she was not there. I actually had to call the salon to be let in, because the door was locked. The gentleman that greeted me was very friendly (I wish I could remember his name) he informed me he was covering for Nicole as a favour. He did a great job, despite having to spend a lot of time rummaging around for material he needed to do the job. end result I liked, but my curls fell flat before I left. (I also found melted plastic or product residue fused to a chunk of my hair, thankfully it wasnt a lot.. but I had to cut it out a bit) so the stylist informs me that Nicole will be in at 4 to do my makeup, I tell him that my appointment was for 3pm and he called Nicole (thankfully she was on her way) we didnt get started with makeup until 3:30. Shes very friendly and asks me what the look was and if I wanted lashes i showed her and told her I wanted lashes and she said it would be an extra $10. I told her I was quoted twice that the lashes are included, she said she would throw them in. I told her I only had a little moisturizer on and she got ready to work (she had to rummage around a very disorganized makeup kit) and proceeds to heavy handedly apply foundation and concealer on (which she mixes with a little metal tool she digs out of the bottom of the markup kit 😱 at this point im running short on time and I have to go.. soo I over look it) . She then has to send the stylist out to get lashes, because she didnt have any. she finishes and im a bit shocked, she offers to retouch my hair, but Im late now and have to go. As Im driving homen the markup under my eyes started to separate and oxidize (primer was not used) and the lashes started lifting up on the car ride to the event, needless to say I did not feel my best. So in hindsight, I should of saved my$$$ on those services and gone elsewhere. I would not recommend this establishment for nails or makeup. The staff is extreamly friendly and seem to know their stuff when it comes to natural hair (although some organization and proper tool maintenance would help)
