Each time the place we very clean and everyone so pleasant. We met a few gentlemen on one visit and that was what helped dad make the move. Everyone went out of their way to say hello to him. He was welcomed with a red carpet upon arrival. So far my siblings and I have been very pleased with Clarendale. The place is very clean. The apartments are nice sizes, the amenities are great. With all that are included there we figure dad might actually save some money. Dad is in the food business he said he had the best omelet over the other morning. We loved Clarendale, everything is so clean and well taken care of. The facility is beautiful and the staff and residents are very friendly and welcoming. Making the transition to senior living can be difficult for some seniors, especially if theyve been in their homes for a long time, like my mother who was hesitant to leave her home. Clarendale staff knows this and takes special care to make that transition easier. I would highly recommend it.

Looking for an Independent Living facility for mom was a bit stressful, but the people at Clarendale of Addison made it so much easier. The staff are so friendly and welcoming, and they know all the residents by name! Each time I went to their beautiful facility I was more sure that we were making the right decision. Why isn’t zero star an option? We moved my cousin in here recently. We feel like it was a bait and switch. They do whatever they can to get you in the door. We were visiting throughout the week and then we came today and were turned away. No one communicated this to us. The young man at the front desk told us that it was in the newsletter. We never received a newsletter and no one informed us of this. If we’ve only been here a week, I can’t imagine what else is going to come. The front desk man made a copy of this “newsletter” and gave it to me and sent me on my way. I understand that there are covid restrictions, but the director should have communicated this to us. We are finally at the point where we are doing a review- judging by the other comments other people are experiencing the same issue as my mother in law. My husband has reached out the the activity director many times, as well as the ex. director with nothing that has changed. I’m assuming another reply to this will be “call mike” as I see this is the response for the other reviews with issues. My mother in law keeps calling my husband because there is nothing to do there, even since before the covid issue. He has been taking her out because we are at a loss. The activity events are more than lacking, they are pretty much non-existent. She called us 3 times yesterday looking for something to do. This shows us there is no accountability or follow through from the higher level corporate management- this is clearly an ongoing issue and we are not the only ones concerned. My mother in law keeps telling my husband she wants to move to the memory section of the building because they are “always doing fun stuff”. We know she does have some memory issues but we don’t think she is at that point yet. We are really hoping for an improvement because we pay a lot of money to have her there.

The day started off great, I had a zoom call with my grandkids today day since we are still on lockdown visitation for Covid-19. Then went I downstairs to the ice cream party. It was chaos as usual in the front area whenever there are any plans, it’s always unorganized and just rushed and thrown together. The lifestyle enrichment lady is always yelling at everyone and very condescending like we are children. It makes the events unenjoyable. She is screaming how she doesn’t care if the food guy gets mad at her because she is giving over size portions of ice cream. That is very tacky for the upscale place this is trying to be.Some things are good here, like the decor and the lady at the front desk named Lyn. She is always friendly and helpful, and not fake like the others in the front office area. I’ve been here for a while now and I’m not very impressed with the change of director to cynthia. CAUTION!! STAY AWAY!! I moved some time ago now and it was one of the worst decisions I have made. Where do I even begin? Everyone seems to be clueless especially the director Cynthia. I’ve have gone to her about issues and NOTHING gets done. She picks and chooses who has to follow the rules. She lets families and people interested in moving in walk all over the building. She seems to have forgotten there is a pandemic going on and does not even care about residents. Her and Paula are all about money. It’s been apparent since I’ve moved in. There is a group working on petitioning her out of the Clarendale. I moved here when Katie ran the building and she was so pleasant. She also resolved issues in a timely matter. My experiences with Cynthia since she arrived almost a year ago have just been unpleasant. I have heard that she gets people to post fake reviews online, which is why I felt the need to post my honest thoughts to warn others. The sales people also harass residents and our families to write good reviews. I am sure this is quite a daunting task as so many people are unhappy. Many of us would like to move out but fear to do so during a pandemic. There are much nicer places locally that we know people live at and are very happy. There are ZERO activities. I have seen the list of activities at other places and the people living are doing lots of things. I really hope this Covid gets better so my friends and I can move out. We are all truly looking forward to this day. We can only hope that maybe Cynthia gets booted out with the petition. It would be nice if corporate management actually did something about her. These issues with her have been going on for far too long and have been unnoticed.

After a poor experience in their first independent living community, my in-laws were on the hunt for their “forever home”. After scouring the Western Suburbs for that perfect fit, they landed at Clarendale of Addison. From the moment we walked into this facility we were warmly greeted and met with nothing but patience when asking a variety of questions about life at Clarendale. We signed on the dotted line the next day and planned for an early April 2020 move in. And then, COVID. Transparently, we were panicked. We had already given 60 day move out notice at their current residence, signed a lease with Clarendale and put a deposit down with a moving company. Sensing our worry, Clarendale stepped in and assured us they would be flexible with move in date and, when move in day arrived, they had an organized and, most importantly, SAFE procedure to get my in-laws settled. Since their arrival, Clarendale has been nothing but accommodating - providing breakfast free of charge when under stay at home orders, delivering both lunch and dinner to residents, having a weekly activity in which staff go door to door with a nacho bar, happy hour, sundae bar, hawaiian themed treats, etc, opening the gym for resident use with safety protocols in place...the list goes on and on. The food is INCREDIBLE with a rotating menu of specials and variety of options to choose from; there was an entire week that my mother-in-law lamented over Facetime to us about having to choose between steak and lobster (she couldn’t get both because “the portions are too big”). They have also been incredibly communicative with resident’s families from sharing weekly updates to having an open line of communication with Clarendale’s Executive Director, Cynthia Miceli. Their handling of the pandemic has been extraordinary considering the circumstances; always communicating developments and changes quickly to residents, and being proactive in imposing safety measures, including free weekly testing for all residents. Cynthia has one of the most challenging careers and she is ALWAYS professional in her approach while also empathetic to the unique needs of each family. We appreciate her efforts as well as the efforts of the Clarendale staff. Suffice it to say, my in-laws have found their “forever home”. HIGHLY RECOMMEND, Clarendale of Addison.

There was no activity going on, the place was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. I wanted to move into a place where it was lively and fun, this is definitely not for me. I looked at the calendar and it was all grocery stores and art. How many times a week do I need to get groceries!! The lady that showed me around didn’t really know what was going on. But when we walked around the staff was very friendly which was nice. Over all just not the facility for me.

I made the decision to move my Father to this facility pre Covid-19 pandemic for the socialization aspect, he needs very minimal assistance, so we decided on the assisted living for his placement, and I am across the country so I can not be there daily for him. We speak a few times a week and even since before the pandemic he has been complaining that there is nothing to do there. No one asked him his interests when he moved in or what he may enjoy doing. Very disappointing.Since the reigns are being loosened now and groups are allowed to congregate he decided to walk to the common area room, he was very upset by the wall hanging, and hearing this so was I. He said there is a picture of a man that appears to have shot himself with the gun beside him on a table! This has resulted in my Father having some PTSD flashbacks from when his friend came to a similar demise years ago. WHY would anyone hang this suicidal photograph in a senior facility common area? Last week I tried calling to speak with the executive director with no return call, not surprised because this is not the first time. The one positive comment my Father did make was that his helper Omer is very friendly and he likes him a lot. Hope the lack of social activity improves or we may be seeking out other options.

It’s a real shame when I went to visit my Dad today- the American Flag is flying at half mast all torn and tattered. If they care for the flag like this I wonder how bad it is inside there since only certain people are allowed in during this lockdown.

The building is a nice new building that is pleasing to the eye which is why I choose to live here. Pretty positive most residents are not happy these days, and not because of the covid either- everyone does what they want because there is no enforcement of masks or social distance here. We even have random people meeting in the dining room from outside frequently.I agree with majority of these reviews on here, the new “Director” is a mess. You can never get an answer out of her to save your life! When she speaks to you her tone very patronizing. I’ve personally been following the covid updates closely- the numbers do not match up with what is being reported. So either the Director Cynthia is lying or the Dupage county is site is lying? Hmmm? We would all appreciate some respect and honesty! Some of our bills have been inaccurate too- don’t even bother trying to get an answer on that! Obviously if multiple people are having the same issues- there is an issue. Instead of random responses with excuses from people that do not know what is really going on how about the problems get fixed instead.

Well, needless to say the covid lockdown has changed things a lot here lately. But overall we have been more disappointed gradually since the new director/dictator Cynthia came to power. This lady is always trying to sneak around or hide in the front office. She lets people freely in and out of the building with NO masks. No respect for us and that we are able to catch the covid easier than most. We get weekly letters which up date us on the situation, but no follow through. Now she wants to reopen things. The actual building is beautiful and has lots of amenities, a gym, aerobic room with chairs, a very nice bar and rec room. But some things have fallen off. The activities were never really good even before the covid, now my friend and I just see them push a cart around all the time like something was just thrown together. The food was delicious in the beginning, went down hill significantly, but has recently gotten better the last month or so, better dessert selection WITH sugar free options finally! We will probably be looking to move out if things continue in this direction. My friend that lives a floor below me told me her daughter put a review and that it did not even get posted. Real honest business practices I see, wonder what else Cynthia is hiding?

My parents recently moved to independent living Clarendale of Addison after living at a different senior living community. Both my parents an I are completely blown away at the level of service and value that Clarendale provides. Not only were the staff able to coordinate and effectively execute a safe move-in during COVID, they continue to be proactive in addressing the pandemic situation to protect their residents.Additionally, my wife and I have visited and met with representatives from several senior living communities over the past 5 years; once when we initially moved my parents into their original location, and then recently when we had to find a new place for them (settling on Clarendale) due to a deterioration of the conditions at the place they initially moved to. I say this to highlight two particularly standout areas for Clarendale; the staff and the food. When we were evaluating Clarendale, prior to my parents signing, representatives from every department (the Director, dining, maintenance, social, medical, etc.) took the time to have a meeting with my parents and I; this was Clarendales idea, not mine. This is representative of the level of care and investment Clarendale has in the happiness and success of their residents. The second item, and the one my parent still bring up to me daily even after living there for a few months, is the food. Almost all senior living communities include some type of meal plan as part of the rent. The problem with a lot of them is that residents are forced into a fixed dining schedule and/or the food just isnt good.Clarendale offers freestyle dining; their dining room is basically a restaurant with daily specials. During normal times, this means residents have a dining account that replenishes once a month and can go eat whenever they want as long as the dining room is open, with obvious windows and changeovers for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. During COVID, this effectively equates to room service at standard meal times; residents are giving menus to fill out for the next day, and breakfast, lunch, and dinner are delivered on a set schedule. This brings us to the food itself. Clarendale is the only place we evaluated that actually employs an Executive Chef (not a Food Service Manager). The offerings to the residents are diverse, and the food is truly restaurant quality. I know Ive spent a lot of time on this but I cannot stress this enough. So much of the meal plan at my parents old community was wasted; the dining seating process was disorganized and time consuming, and the food was terrible. This resulted in my parents electing to dine elsewhere or, during COVID, get outside food delivered. At Clarendale, they have a generous food allowance they can spend how they wish and they continue to be amazed by the food on a daily basis, even though they moved in months ago; theyve only gotten food from outside a handful of times since moving in and it was because they had a taste for something. While the deterioration of quality of life at their old community was unfortunate and moving, especially during COVID, was a stressful experience, my parents, my wife, and I count our blessings every day that all of that unpleasantness led us to Clarendale. I didnt realize how much my parents previous situation at the old community was troubling me until I noticed how little I worry about them now that they are at Clarendale; we are truly grateful.
